Chapter 45: Chapter 45

Roman. Talia, and Valentina convened in an upper room of theestate, the old floorboards creaking underfoot. Rain streaked the windows in pale lines, matching the turmoil in their hearts. Spread across a large oak table lay reams of documents detailing Soren's hidden offshore accounts-bank statements, wire transfers, disguised corporate expenditures. The tension in the air feIt brittle, as though a single misstep would shatter the alliance they'd painstakingly formed.

"I reached out to a key contact in the media," Roman said, tapping his phone's screen. “They're prepared to run this exposé first thing in the morning. But are we sure we want to do this? It's going to be explosive.”His gaze flicked to Talia, whose jaw had been set with grim resolve ever since she discovered her father's complicity. She recalled Soren's threats, the hush money used to keep conspirators silent, and how he twisted every rule to maintain control.

Valentina, hands trembling slightly, sighed. “We've no other choice. Soren's attacks have escalated beyond negotiation. Caspian can't hold the company together if shareholders remain ignorant. Better they learn the truth from us than from anotherof Soren's twisted narratives." She paused.remembering the years she'd stayed silent, rationalizing his actions as family necessities. Guilt knotted in her chest, but she drew on the new resolve that fueled her.

Talia spread out the final pages. "These documents implicate him deeply,”she said quietly, scanning a list of transfers from Hayes Enterprises to shadowy bank accounts. "He can't wriggle free of this once the public sees his name attached." Her heart thudded at the knowledge that she was delivering a near-fatal blow to Soren's empire. Yet, with Caspian stíll hospitalized and Celeste fighting an uphill battle to keep their marriage

recognized. she saw no other path.

Roman sent a brief text verifying the leak was in motion. Within minutes, phones began buzzing. Headlines sprang up on lesser-known sites first, swiftly followed by larger media outlets. Talia's phone pinged with updates from a major financial news channel: Soren Montague's offshore dealings were exposed, and a public scandal was erupting.

At Hayes Enterprises. Soren responded with frantic calls, summoning damage control teams. Rumours inside the board circulated that he'd been blindsided. Meanwhile, Talia peered out the window, watching the rainfall intensify over the gardens. She could envision the media storm bearing down just as fiercely on Soren's reputation.

As they prepared to disperse, Roman's phone beeped. A message had arrived from an anonymous board member: “Soren was tipped off. He knows Caspian plans to dismantle his corporate network.”Talia's heart lurched. Soren wouldn't wait passively for the next blow. Even as their revelations tore at the foundation of his power, he evidently had one final move aimed directly at Caspian's fragile hold on the company he loved.

The rain had relented by the time Caspian stood in the corridor of Hayes Enterprises' top floor, bracing himself against a swirl of anxiety. Echoing footsteps conveyed a sense of emptiness, most executives having retreated early due to the scandal unfolding in the press. Soren's name now trended across financial networks, allegations flying about his offshore corruption.Yet Soren himself lingered, unflinching behind an office door bearing his name.

Caspian inhaled, pushing the door open. The office lights glowed, illuminating the glossy wood of an imposing desk behind which Soren sat with a drink in hand. He offered a tight smile. "I see you're on your feet

again, dear son," he greeted, voice laced with mock empathy. Caspian refused to mask his contempt. His chest tightened with the memory of collapsing from sheer exhaustion, the hospital's bleach-scented halls swirling around him. And still, Soren meddled.

He approached, ignoring the plush visitor's chairs, posture ramrod straight."This ends now." he spat, eyes narrowed. “Your secret accounts are public knowledge. The board sees you for what you are-no trust remains."Thunder rumbled distantly as if punctuating his words. Soren merely sipped from his glass, unruffled. The tension in the air seemed thick enough to cut.

"For a man who spent days unconscious," Soren remarked, swirling the amber liquid in his tumbler, “you speak boldly.” He slid open a desk drawer. extracting a slim file. Caspian's gaze flicked to the label, curiosity laced with dread.“Did you truly imagine I'd let you claim victory unscathed?" Soren asked softly, opening the file to reveal an array of papers and a single photograph.

Caspian stiffened, forcing himself not to betray the spike of alarm in his chest."What is that?" he asked, voice low. Soren smirked, tapping the photo.“Your precious Celeste's concealed misdeeds,” he murmured. “She's never told you how she once uncovered one of my criminal ventures-how she was silenced and nearly locked out of your life. She's hardly the innocent you believe her to be."

Fury welled in Caspian's throat, merging with a new ripple of doubt.Could Celeste have hidden such a secret? And if so, why? He wanted to defend her outright, but the evidence Soren brandished looked damning enough to ratle him, “You're lying," he managed, though uncertainty crept in, raw and painful. Soren set the file down with a triumphant grin.“Expose me, or keep your illusions about Celeste. Either way, something

shatters."

White-hot anger mingled with panic, the realization that Soren's final gambit might tear a new wound between him and Celeste, just as they needed unity most. Soren raised his glass in a silent toast, fearless in his arrogance. Speechless. Caspian turned on his heel and stormed out, file clutched beneath his arm, pulse roiling with heartbreak and fierce resolve to glean the truth from Celeste-no matter how dark it might be.

Nighttime cloaked the mansion's halls in muted gold lamplight as Caspian returned.face stricken from the confrontation with Soren. He found Celeste in the library, perched on the edge of a velvet sofa, flipping through old notes with restless energy. At the sight of him, she paused, her expression swiftly contorting with concern. "What happened?”she whispered, taking in the anger vibrating beneath his posture, the folder clutched in one hand.

He extended the folder, his voice edged in accusation. “Soren claims you've been hiding something-some knowledge of a criminal act you discovered years ago." His breath rasped, insides churning at the idea that Celeste, the one who had stood steadfast at his side, might have concealed a damning truth.

Her face paled. She recognized the file's contents from the single photograph pinned inside, capturing a younger version of herself sneaking into one of Soren's locked offices. Her hand shook as she closed her eyes, forcibly recalling the night she stumbled on illicit ledgers revealing Soren's initial forays into corporate embezzlement. The memory of the terrifying confrontation that followed-how Soren threatened her and forced her from Caspian's life for a time-slammed into her with renewed force.

Caspian's breathing hitched, pain and betrayal surfacing. "You never told me," he managed, voice tight."Why would you keep that from me?"

Shadows danced across the library walls, each flicker highlighting the haunted expression in Celeste's eyes. She set her notes aside, hands trembling.“Because I was terrified," she said, voice quivering with repressed emotion. “He threatened me, told me he'd ruin not just my future, but yours too if I exposed him. I-I couldn't bear to see you destroyed."

He dropped onto the sofa's arm, reeling from the weight of her confession. Each piece of this family's puzzle felt sharper than the last, designed to cut at fragile bonds. “All those nights I wondered why you left me,” he murmured. “You never hinted it was Soren forcing you away." She nodded, tears slipping free. “I buried it because I worried you'd find blame in me.Then Soren grew more dangerous, forging blackmail, driving me out again.

At that moment, the library doors swung open. A panting junior associate from Caspian's legal team stood there, clutching fresh legal documents.“Soren's preparing new charges against both of you," the associate choked out, eyes wide with alarm. “He's going to claim Celeste aided in his crimes if you can believe it.”

Caspian's grip tightened on Celeste's arm, heart pounding at the twisted irony: Soren would frame her for the very secrets she once risked everything to expose, Celeste braced for a fresh onslaught, and Caspian, though unsteady, squared his shoulders, refusing to let Soren's final gambit break them. They would stand together, unravel the lies, or risk the entire empire crashing down around them in the fight.
