Diana grabbed him roughly, "Whnat the hell are you doing? Do you even realize Dad's guys areall over the place? He's been pretty chill with you,but you keep pushing it. Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Seeing Chris in such a bad shape, Diana's hatred for Amelia hit an all-time high.
Why did that lowly Amelia get to leave in good condition with Victor, while her son had to suffer here?
"Let go of me." Chris's strength wasn't what it used to be, and he couldn't even shake off Diana.
His face was grim. "I'm not giving up until I find her."
"You're driving me nuts!" Diana turned around, pointing at him and yelling, "Idiot! Your reckless search for her is just gonna piss Dad off more and make him more determined to keep you from finding her. If you could just chill out, or at least pretend to give up, Dad might ease up and give you a chance."
Diana was at her wit's end; she couldn't stand watching her son destroy himself.
Chris suddenly froze. She actually made sense.
So, for a while, he calmed down. He pulled back all his men, personally apologized to Victor, and stayed at his place, claiming he was recuperating.
As time went on, Chris gradually returned to a normal life. He stopped managing the company's heavy affairs and spent his days eating, drinking, and having fun with Nolan and the others.
He became the cener of the gossip of the town, as it was the first time he had been directly dismissed and controlled by the family head.
One night, he was drinking with Nolan at a club.
"Let's toast to Mr. Spencer, celebrating his newfound freedom," Nolan said with a cheeky grin, being the only one who dared to tease Chris like that.
Chris lazily glared at him but didn't get mad. He raised his glass and drank with everyone, looking carefree.
"Chris, stop drinking." Leila weakly advised.
Everyone paused for a few seconds, then whispered about how Leila couldn't read the room. Chris was in a good mood, and she was killing the vibe.
"Get out." Chris turned his head nonchalantly, gving her a cold look, "Don't make me say it twice."
Leila stiffened, her face turning pale as she stumbled out.
The atmosphere got tense for a moment.
Nolan joked, "You have no sense of tenderness and care for women, at least she..." He stopped mid-sentence, seeing Chris's cold gaze, and quickly changed his tone, "Let's carry on. I'm glad that you've finally got some free time."
The group continued drinking, partying, and having a wild time.
Chris seemed to get drunk, his face flushed, and his eyes became hazy.
He saw a familiar figure approaching, looking gentle like a little kitten,"Chris, stop drinking, it's bad for your health. I'm worried about you."
He was momentarily dazed, reaching out to touch, but unsure who this person was.
The old Amelia.or...
Yes, it was the old Amelia, different from the current Amelia who was surprisingly resilient. Back then, she was always soft and gentle, never getting angry no matter how he mistreated her.
In the past, he just wanted to see how long this little kitten could hold out.So he kept testing her, hurting her over and over, watching her cry,and being heartless each time.
At first, he did it to get back at her for ruining his reputation. But for some reason, every time he looked into her clear, bright eyes, all his anger seemed to disappear in an instant.
He didn't hate her as much as he thought.
In fact, sometimes, he even felt a strange pity for her.
This subtle feeling made him angry, and losing control made him irritable.
And the cycle continued.
"Chris, Ryder wants to see you," Nolan suddenly patted his shoulder and said urgently, "He says he has something to report."
Chris waved his hand, "Let him come over."
Ryder walked in quickly, and by then, Nolan had cleared out the others.Ryder said in a deep voice, "Mr. Chris Spencer, Mr. Victor Spencer suddenly sent two expert doctors to Celestria. I suspect something's up."
Chris, who had been dazed, immediately snapped to attention, his voice
cold,"Let's go!"
Nolan was shocked by his quick action.
Chris and his men secretly followed Victor's people to a small island in Celestria. It used to be a tourist resort but it vanished from maps when Victor bought it.
No wonder he couldn't find it.
Two days later. Chris arrived. He found that the island's defenses weren't tight, but the whole place was filled with tension.
"Could it be that Ms. White is sick?" Ryder speculated.
Chris's face darkened, "Ill drive, you navigate."
Ryder was somewhat uneasy, knowing how terrifying Chris's driving speed could be.
In less than half an hour, they reached the villa complex at the island's center.
This was the most heavily guarded area, with many mercenaries and heavy weapons.
Chris had too few men to confront them head-on, so he planned to use strategy. But the gate suddenly opened.
Chris was then convinced that Victor deliberately led him here to see Amelia.
Meanwhile, Amelia was trembling in pain.
She had just undergone surgery and hadn't recovered from a near-death
state. On top of that, she had suffered a huge emotional blow and was on the verge of breaking down.
Holly brought in some chicken soup, "Eat something. You haven't eaten in two days. You just... your body is severely damaged. You need to replenish."
Amelia shook her head, "I can't eat. Take it away."
The baby she got from huge efforts was in the wrong place, growing in her fallopian tube, causing massive bleeding and nearly killing her.
Amelia's heart was shattered. She had tried so hard, only to get such a disappointing result.
She felt she had let her children down and was utterly devastated.
Though the surgery was done, her abdomen still suffered from faint pain, reminding her of her failure.
"Don't be like this." Holly felt heartbroken seeing her so dejected, "You're young. If you take care of yourself, you can still have children. If you give up now, there's really no hope."
"What?" A cold voice suddenly came.
Amelia froze, instinctively looking towards the door. It was Chris. How did he get here?
"You had a miscarriage?" Chris quickly approached, his gaze particularly serious.
