Sheng Qingming smacked Sheng Fei's head so hard the boy staggered.
"You dare complain?" Sheng Qingming hissed through clenched teeth. "Do you have any idea how much your little stunt cost our family?"
Sheng Fei pouted. "I wasn't lying. She really does work as an escort at that club."
Thankfully Jenna wasn't present, or the situation would've escalated further.
Seeing the tension, Xu Chang grabbed Sheng Fei's collar and dragged him away.
......
The next afternoon, Milo Roland had just finished lunch when his phone rang.
"Ryan?" Milo answered, leaning against his hospital bed's headboard.
"Breaking news!" Ryan Watson sounded thrilled. "Sheng Fei apologized to you over the school PA system during recess. I recorded it—want to hear?"
Milo scoffed. "Not interested."
"Suit yourself. By the way, did he really fracture your ribs?"
"What do you think?" Milo snapped. "You think I'm faking this hospital stay?"
"Damn! That bastard went that far? I thought you'd beaten him up worse." Ryan whistled. "Honestly, you shouldn't have let him off so easy."
"You think I wanted to?" Milo lowered his voice. "If it weren't for protecting my sister's reputation, I'd never have agreed to settle."
"Speaking of which, how did Sheng Fei know about Jenna working at the club?"
"Beats me!" Milo's brow furrowed.
Apart from himself, not even Ryan knew about this. How could Sheng Fei...
"I'll look into it. Focus on recovering." Ryan hung up.
Milo set down his phone and glanced at Jenna peeling apples by his bedside. "Sis, won't Mr. Roscente be upset you're not cooking for him?"
"I took leave," Jenna said without looking up. "He said it's fine."
"Good." Milo exhaled in relief.
......
Five days later, Milo was finally discharged.
Jenna headed straight to the market after their early morning return home.
Spotting fresh marrow bones at the butcher's stall, she immediately bought two to make nourishing soup for her brother.
Back home, Jenna started simmering the bone broth, then called Ethan Roscente.
"Mr. Roscente, will you be home for lunch?" she asked softly. After a pause, she nodded. "Understood."
As she hung up, Milo sidled over. "He's coming?"
"Yes." Jenna nodded. "Grandma Blanche too."
"Grandma Blanche?" Milo blinked. "Since when?"
"She called while I was shopping," Jenna explained. "She wants to see you."
Grandma Blanche had known about Milo's hospitalization but was away on a trip. She'd returned yesterday and, learning of Milo's discharge, decided to visit in person.
