Grandma Blanche picked up a morsel of food and glanced at Milo with concern. "Milo, how's your recovery going?"
Milo set down his chopsticks and answered politely, "Thank you for asking, Grandma Blanche. I'm feeling much better."
"If anything happens at school, you must tell me." Grandma Blanche patted the back of his hand. "I'll stand up for you."
Milo smiled faintly and nodded.
Grandma Blanche turned to Jenna. "Jenna, how was the matter resolved in the end?"
"The other party compensated for medical expenses and emotional damages." Jenna ladled soup into a bowl. "That student, Sheng Fei, publicly apologized to Milo."
Grandma Blanche hummed thoughtfully, hesitating as if she wanted to say more.
After dinner, Ethan unexpectedly stayed behind to help clear the table.
Jenna looked at him in surprise.
Grandma Blanche cheerfully led Milo to the living room to watch TV.
In the kitchen, Jenna turned on the faucet to wash dishes.
Ethan's tall figure stood beside her, his black suit amplifying his commanding presence.
"Did you need something, Mr. Roscente?" Jenna kept her head down as she spoke.
The water rushed loudly in the sink.
"Quit this job as soon as possible." Ethan's voice was cold.
Jenna's hands paused briefly. Her voice grew quieter. "Milo's surgery will cost nearly a hundred thousand..."
She needed the money.
Ethan had expected Jenna to ask for a loan, but she never did.
"Why not borrow from friends?" he asked instead.
Jenna gave a bitter smile. "That much money isn't a small sum. No one would lend me that kind of amount."
She didn’t want to be burdened with crushing debt.
"Grandma Blanche..." Ethan tested.
"Grandma Blanche lives on her pension. How could I ask her for money?" Jenna shook her head.
Only then did Ethan realize Jenna had no idea of their true identities.
Her closeness to Grandma Blanche wasn’t calculated.
Water droplets slid down the rim of a bowl. Ethan watched Jenna’s busy figure with a complicated expression.
