Chapter 172: Chapter 172

Jenna Roland slid the carefully prepared lunchbox toward Ethan Roscente. A faint smile touched her lips as she sat across from him.

"The Red Cross just transferred the donation to my account." Her voice was soft. "Thanks to your help. I made this meal specially for you—every dish tailored to your taste."

Ethan picked up his chopsticks in silence and took a bite of the braised carp.

"Thank you, Mr. Roscente." Jenna pressed her lips together.

He glanced up briefly. "No need."

She nodded and began eating.

Midway through the meal, she couldn't resist asking, "Have you finalized arrangements with Dr. Liam Melford?"

Ethan set down his chopsticks, his gaze cool as ever. "He'll come whenever Milo is admitted."

Jenna's eyes brightened. "Dr. Melford actually agreed to operate on Milo?"

"Pro bono." Ethan added curtly before resuming his meal.

Jenna froze.

Pro bono?

The internationally renowned specialist was willing to perform the surgery for free?

"Why would he waive the fee?" she asked, puzzled.

"He sympathizes with your situation." Ethan didn't look at her.

In truth, while Liam had waived the surgical fees, he'd taken a keen interest in one of Ethan's antique paintings. As a seasoned collector, Liam had already appraised its value—at least three million.

Combined with the million Ethan had transferred to Jenna through the Red Cross, he'd spent over four million to make amends.

But as his nominal wife, spending this amount on her wasn't unreasonable.

"Dr. Melford has a healer's heart," Jenna murmured. "But Milo wants to wait until summer vacation for the surgery. Would it be possible for the doctor to come then?"

"Fine." Ethan's reply was clipped.

Jenna exhaled in relief. "Thank you."

Just after the meal, Ethan's phone rang.

It was Lucas Roscente.

After hanging up, Jenna recognized the gravity in his expression.

"Go ahead," she offered. "I'll handle the dishes."

Ethan nodded. As he stood, he paused. "I'll wash them tomorrow."

Jenna smiled. "We'll see."

After cleaning up, she napped until four in the afternoon. Upon waking, she dialed Daisy Langley.

"Can you resend that lawyer's contact info?"

"Didn't I send it already?"

"I didn't save it. My messages got cleared."

Daisy promptly forwarded the number after hanging up.

Jenna made the call. A warm male voice answered, "Hugo Valence speaking. How may I help you?"

"Mr. Valence, this is Jenna Roland." She straightened. "I consulted you before about legal action. The funds are secured now—I'd like to schedule a meeting."
