Yuanmei, Li Xinyue, and Chen Yuanyuan fell to Jenna Roland one after another. Now only Yuanmei remained.
The best-of-three rule still applied.
The outcome was predictable. Yuanmei, too, became another victim of Jenna's prowess.
The three women exchanged helpless glances before turning to Wendy Lombardi with pouts, complaining about Jenna's unbeatable skills.
Wendy threw an arm around Jenna's shoulders and smirked triumphantly. "Now you see how good she is? Pay up—go buy the wine."
Never in their wildest dreams had they imagined all three would lose to Jenna!
Though bitter, a bet was a bet. They pooled their money and purchased a $26,000 bottle of Romanée-Conti.
A classic case of adding insult to injury.
Wendy patted Jenna. "You can go now, Jenna."
"Alright." Jenna stood, her gaze lingering on Wendy. "Call me if you need anything, sis."
As she stepped out of the private room, she nearly collided with Chloe Blanchet emerging from next door.
Jenna shut the door behind her, puzzled. "Weren't you on leave today?"
Chloe had been absent during the meeting, with Supervisor Patrick Klein citing her leave.
Chloe grinned and sidled up to her. "My dad came to town. I was supposed to pick him up, but my cousin had the day off, so he went instead."
Jenna nodded. "I see."
Chloe slung an arm around her shoulders. "Heard you're resigning?"
Jenna massaged her temples. "Stella Laurent really can't keep her mouth shut!"
"So it's true?" Chloe's eyes widened.
"Yeah." Jenna explained her reasons in detail.
Chloe gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "Your brother's surgery comes first. He shouldn't be alone during recovery. You're making the right choice."
"No other option." Jenna sighed. "After I'm gone, work hard and get rich. Aim to be millionaires soon."
Chloe burst out laughing. "From your lips to God's ears."
......
The next evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Jenna pulled up to Blue Bottle Coffee on her e-bike.
After parking, she dialed Hugo Valence's number.
He answered immediately, saying he'd already arrived and she should come straight in.
Hanging up, Jenna entered the café. Turning left toward the main seating area, she spotted a man in a white dress shirt, charcoal-gray tie, and black vest waving at her.
For a split second, Jenna froze—until he called out, "Ms. Roland?"
Approaching his table, she offered an apologetic smile. "Attorney Valence, my apologies. I didn't recognize you at first."
