Sophie Roscente lounged lazily on her bed, twirling a strand of hair around her finger. "Last night's adventure?" She drawled, mischief glinting in her eyes.
Fiona Cortez gasped dramatically on the other end of the line. "Oh my god! Don't tell me you actually—"
"Stop right there." Sophie flipped onto her back. "What happens at Studio 54 stays at Studio 54. If Mom finds out, I'll be grounded for life."
"Since when have I ever ratted you out?" Fiona protested before changing the subject. "Speaking of which, how's your brother's whirlwind marriage going?"
Sophie snorted. "What do you think? It's a marriage of convenience."
She still couldn't fathom why her parents had disapproved of Ethan's relationship with Yvonne Sherwood, who came from a prominent family. Yet now they were treating Jenna Roland—a nobody with no connections—like royalty.
"You're so dense!" Fiona's voice rose an octave. "If your parents adore Jenna that much, get on her good side. She could be your golden ticket next time you're in trouble."
Sophie bolted upright, eyes sparkling with realization.
"Genius!" She laughed, slapping her thigh.
Fiona rolled her eyes audibly. "Honestly, is there room in that head for anything besides hot guys?"
"Time to butter up my new sister-in-law." Sophie's mind raced. Grandma Blanche was getting old—she needed someone influential to back her up when things got messy.
"I'm calling Ethan right now."
"Idiot!" Fiona cut in. "Do it in person if you want to make an impression."
Sophie bounced off the bed. "You're the best!"
She dashed downstairs and draped herself over Grandma Blanche's shoulder. "Grandma, can I have Jenna's address? I want to meet her."
Grace Roscente set her teacdown with a clatter. "What are you scheming now?"
"Mom!" Sophie rolled her eyes. "I'm not going to eat her alive. Can't family visit family?"
Grandma Blanche fretted. "Maybe start with a photo first?"
"Grandma!" Sophie's face fell. "You used to spoil me rotten. Now you won't even grant me this tiny favor?"
The old woman fell silent, flustered.
Grandpa Harrison rubbed his temples. "Let her go."
"Dad!" Benjamin Roscente stood abruptly. "You know how tactless she can be."
The realization hit Sophie like a ton of bricks—her entire family was guarding against her loose lips.
