Jenna's gaze lingered on the keychain at Victor's waist.
"Still going to weed the orchard this afternoon?" she asked abruptly.
Victor froze.
They'd just been arguing heatedly moments ago. Now she was asking about gardening?
What game was this girl playing?
Fiona smoothed things over with a smile. "The sun's too intense now. Let's wait till it cools down."
"Then I'll take my leave." Jenna stood and walked out without another word.
Sean hurried after her.
Once they were out of earshot, Fiona's pleasant expression twisted into fury.
"Victor!" she hissed through clenched teeth. "You almost ruined everything!"
Victor snorted. "I can't stand her smug face."
"Eighty thousand dollars!" Fiona lowered her voice. "We might even squeeze out more. But if you scare her off, we get nothing!"
She glared at her husband. "You will control yourself until that money's in our hands!"
The mention of money finally subdued Victor.
......
Outside the restaurant, Sean caught up with Jenna.
"I never thought he'd secretly transfer the orchard's ownership," he said bitterly.
Jenna gave a humorless laugh. "There's plenty you don't know."
"You think the will was forged?" Sean frowned.
"The sole beneficiary being him? Highly suspicious," Jenna said flatly.
Sean shook his head. "Knowing my father, he'd seize the orchard with or without a will. I doubt he even wrote it."
"Then who did?" Jenna stopped abruptly.
"If we find the will, I can verify if it's his handwriting," Sean offered.
Jenna bit her lip. "Even if we find it, Milo said the signatures don't match."
"You're planning to use it in court?" Sean looked startled.
"A genuine will would force him to return the orchard," Jenna sighed. "Too bad it's fake."
Sean gave a pained smile. "If only your father were still—"
"If he were alive, your father wouldn't have gotten his hands on that orchard," Jenna cut in coldly.
The will was just a pretext anyway.
What she truly sought was the truth behind her parents' deaths.
That wooden box held too many secrets.
She had to get those keys.
