Chapter 226: Chapter 226

Sylvia Savigny had known Jake Varley was trouble from the moment she first laid eyes on him.

She'd pleaded with Stella Laurent countless times, even threatening to cut ties.

But Stella seemed bewitched, refusing to break up with him no matter what.

Now she finally saw Jake's true colors.

What a costly lesson.

Sylvia turned to Jenna Roland. "I heard you work at Studio 54?"

Jenna nodded. "Yes, but I'm quitting soon. My brother needs surgery, and my family objects."

Sylvia studied her. "That place doesn't suit you. With your qualities, you could find something better."

A faint smile touched Jenna's lips. "Thank you. I think so too."

Her phone rang abruptly.

The caller ID showed "Sophie Roscente"—Ethan Roscente's younger sister.

This was Sophie's first contact since their last meeting.

"Jenna!" Sophie's excited voice chirped through the receiver. "My friend heard you're an amazing cook and wants to try your food!"

Jenna chuckled. "When?"

"Tonight, maybe?" Sophie sounded hopeful.

Jenna hesitated.

She'd promised Tristan Ashcroft she'd work the evening shift at the club.

"If you're busy, it's okay..." Sophie's voice deflated.

"It's fine. Tonight works." Jenna relented. "But I have to leave by eight."

"Perfect!" Sophie cheered. "I'll bring her over right away!"

After hanging up, Jenna gave Stella an apologetic look. "Friends are coming over. I should go."

Stella waved her off. "Go ahead. We'll catch up later."

"Bye, Sylvia." Jenna bid farewell to the older woman.

Sylvia smiled. "Take care."

......

Groceries in hand, Jenna returned home and dialed Ethan's number.

"Speak." His cold voice cut through the line.

Jenna kept her tone soft. "Sophie's bringing a friend over for dinner. Will you...join us?"

"Hn."

The call ended abruptly.

Jenna drew a deep breath and headed to the kitchen.

By 5:30 PM, the dining table was set with an elaborate spread.

As she reached for her phone to text Sophie, the doorbell rang.
