Chapter 244: Chapter 244

"Jenna, it's your uncle." Victor Roland's voice came through the phone, deliberately hushed. "Your father was my own brother. You and Milo are his children. The way I treated you before... I was wrong as an elder."

Fiona Roland whispered urgently beside him, "Keep going!"

Victor swallowed hard. "I want to formally apologize. About the orchard... Let's discuss it in person."

Jenna's fingers tightened around her phone. "Victor, after scheming so hard to steal that orchard, you suddenly want to return it?"

"Your parents visited me in a dream last night." His tone turned eerie. "They demanded I give it back to you. Or else..."

"Or else what?" Jenna scoffed.

"Or my whole family will face divine retribution." His voice trembled. "So... when can you come to the house?"

A mocking glint flashed in Jenna's eyes. "What's this? Finally feeling afraid?"

"Yes." Victor sounded desperate. "Let's meet as soon as possible."

Jenna narrowed her gaze. Something smelled fishy—Victor's sudden change of heart reeked of deception.

"We'll meet at a café. Somewhere public."

She wasn't foolish enough to walk into their territory again. The last incident remained fresh in her memory—who knew what trap they'd set this time?

"Fine. Name the place." Victor agreed readily.

After hanging up, Victor spat in disgust. "That cunning little bitch won't come here!"

Fiona stomped her foot in frustration. "How can we administer the drug if she doesn't come home?"

"Relax." Victor leaned in with a sinister grin. "I've got a better plan..."

As Fiona listened, her eyes lit up. "Brilliant! Once it's done, that 1.5 million..."

"You can spend it however you like." Victor rubbed his hands greedily.

The buyer had initially offered only 800k but doubled the price after seeing Jenna's photo. Imagining the fortune soon to be theirs, the couple exchanged smug smiles.

"This time, we can't fail!" Fiona hissed.

Morning sunlight bathed Beverly Hills in gold.

After freshening up, Jenna headed out with a grocery basket. The bustling market hummed with activity as she carefully selected fresh ingredients.

Back home, she texted Ethan: "Coming back for lunch?"

Receiving confirmation, she tied on an apron and began prepping. The rice cooker's aroma filled the air. Just as she picked up a kitchen knife, her phone rang.
