Grandma Blanche's gaze landed on Ethan Roscente's hand and suddenly noticed a pink Hello Kitty Band-Aid on his left index finger.
The adorable bandage created a striking contrast with his usual cold demeanor.
Grandpa Harrison Roscente frowned with concern. "Ethan, what happened to your hand?"
"Just a minor cut," Ethan replied flatly, continuing to serve himself from the dishes.
Justin Kemnis stared at the shredded carrots on the table, abruptly recalling how finely Jenna Roland had sliced them during their last meal together.
His head snapped up, eyes widening in disbelief. "Did you chop these?"
Grandma Blanche gasped in realization. "No wonder they're so uneven—Jenna's knife skills are impeccable."
She could hardly believe it. Ethan, who had never lifted a finger in the kitchen his entire life, had actually helped with meal prep today.
Ethan kept eating stoically, though the tips of his ears turned faintly pink.
Grandpa Harrison burst into hearty laughter. "Never thought I'd see the day our Ethan cooks for his wife! Splendid!"
Only then did Jenna realize Ethan had never stepped foot in their home kitchen before.
Grandma Blanche tactfully changed the subject. "It's been two weeks since I last tasted Jenna's cooking. I'm having extra servings tonight."
"Please enjoy, Grandma." Jenna smiled, serving her another portion.
The dinner lasted nearly two hours.
When Ethan moved to help clear the table, Jenna noticed his injured finger and firmly ushered him to the living room to entertain their elders.
Alone in the kitchen facing a mountain of dishes, Jenna was startled when Grandma Blanche reappeared.
"Let me assist you," the elderly woman said, rolling up her sleeves.
Jenna quickly intercepted her. "You should rest, Grandma. I can handle this."
She thought to herself that if anyone should help, it should be Milo—certainly not an octogenarian.
