Chapter 490: Chapter 490

Ethan took out the formula and baby bottle from his bag. The bottle had been sterilized at home, and the water in the thermos was at the perfect temperature, ready to prepare the baby's meal.

He turned to look at Jenna on the hospital bed. She was fast asleep, exhausted from the physical toll of childbirth, finally able to rest properly.

Half an hour later, Grace returned to the room with the crying baby and Benjamin. Worried the noise would wake Jenna, Ethan gestured for them to step outside. He quickly prepared the formula and handed the bottle to Grace.

"The little one is starving," Grace murmured soothingly, carefully guiding the nipple to the baby's mouth.

Grandma Blanche leaned in, her eyes filled with tenderness. "Look how eagerly he's drinking. All that crying earlier—he was just hungry."

Benjamin chuckled and asked Grandpa Harrison, "Dad, who do you think he takes after?"

"He looks just like Ethan," Grandpa Harrison observed, studying his grandson. "The shape of his head is identical to Ethan's when he was a baby."

Ethan frowned. "My head was that big?"

Grandma Blanche immediately chimed in, "You were always our big-headed boy."

Skeptical, Ethan turned to Milo. "Be honest."

Milo awkwardly rubbed his nose. "Well... it was kind of large."

What truly left Ethan speechless was when Grace nodded in agreement. "The doctor said Jenna's severe perineal tearing was because the baby's head circumference exceeded the norm. The genetics are undeniable."

Even his own mother had to say it—Ethan was utterly defeated.

The baby soon fell asleep in Grace's arms, but most of the formula remained in the bottle. A nurse came in to check and reminded them, "A newborn's stomach is very small. Thirty milliliters per feeding is enough."

Ethan realized he'd prepared too much. He'd been worried the baby would go hungry, but he might have overburdened him instead.

The nurse moved to Jenna's bedside. "We need to massage the uterus to help expel the lochia."

Stella hesitated. "But she just fell asleep..."

"This is essential postpartum care," the nurse said, pulling back the blanket and applying firm pressure to Jenna's abdomen.

The sudden, sharp pain jolted Jenna awake. The combination of uterine contractions and external pressure made her break out in a cold sweat.

"Why does it still hurt after giving birth?" Jenna asked weakly.

The nurse continued her work as she explained, "The uterus needs to shrink back to its original size. This is normal."

Jenna finally understood—the pain of childbirth wasn't over yet. After the nurse left, she said to Stella, who was staying overnight, "You should get some rest. Grandma and the others can take care of things here."

Stella shook her head. "I'll just nap on the empty bed next door. You're the one who needs proper rest right now."

Grateful, Jenna nodded and closed her eyes again. The room finally settled into quiet, the only sound the steady beeping of the monitor.
