Harrison shot upright, the sudden movement startling the woman beside him.
"Mr. Blackwood, what's wrong?" she asked, recoiling slightly before reaching for his hand.
Panic seized him, his mind a blank slate. He jerked his hand away from her touch.
He moved to leave, his steps hurried.
The private room door burst open with a crash. Police officers swarmed inside.
Screams erupted. The occupants scrambled into corners, terrified into silence.
Harrison stood frozen, his face draining of color as the officers advanced.
"Harrison Blackwood, you are under arrest for suspicion of involvement in a kidnapping. You need to come with us," one officer stated.
Harrison's expression darkened instantly. He knew. Julian had not only ruined the deal but had sold him out.
"On what grounds? I'm a Blackwood! You have no authority here!" he shouted, his voice echoing with arrogance. "Lay a hand on me, and my family will destroy your careers!"
The officers remained impassive, unaffected by his threats. The lead officer gave a curt nod. "Take him."
They moved swiftly, overpowering him.
"Release me! Let go!" Harrison thrashed, but the alcohol made him sluggish and weak. Handcuffs clicked into place. He was dragged away.
In the hospital room, Evelyn was awake, watching the news broadcast. "Police in Crestwood have resolved a kidnapping case. The suspect, Julian Blackwood, has confessed and named Harrison Blackwood as the mastermind."
Evelyn felt a jolt of surprise. Was this mere coincidence?
She grabbed her phone, opening a social media app. She scrolled through the trending discussions.
"Stop speculating. The mastermind is Harrison, the second son of the powerful Blackwood family."
"Be careful, OP. This post might get deleted."
"Don't worry. With Harrison arrested, justice is served. You can relax now."
"Exactly. The law applies to everyone, even the Blackwoods."
"Call it a hunch, but I think Harrison must have pissed off someone very powerful to end up like this."
"Doesn't matter. Kidnapping is a serious crime. No excuses. I heard the victim was a woman. She must have been through hell."
Reading the comments, Evelyn found it hard to accept. Had Julian truly confessed? It seemed completely against his nature.
She set her phone down, her thoughts drifting back to the night Alexander rescued her. She remembered the shadowy figures with him.
Could Alexander have engineered Julian's confession?
How was Harrison's arrest connected?
Before she could untangle her thoughts, Alexander entered the room, propelling his wheelchair.
He noticed her troubled expression. "Is everything alright?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.
She met his gaze. His demeanor was calm, composed. She had to ask. "I saw the news. Did you have something to do with Julian's confession? And Harrison's arrest?"
Alexander moved his wheelchair closer to her bed. A faint, questioning smile touched his lips. "You give me too much credit. All I did was point Julian toward the police station. What happened after was their doing. It seems he couldn't handle the pressure."
His explanation eased her suspicion, but a sliver of doubt remained.
"Harrison is involved now," Evelyn said, her voice low with worry. "If your family finds out the whole story, won't they come after you? Try to force you into something?"
