Chapter 118: Chapter 118

The phone is buzzing.

Sunlight streamed into the bedroom, pulling Evelyn from her dreams.

She blinked slowly, her mind still foggy with sleep.

Her cheek was pressed against a soft cotton shirt.

It took her a moment to realize it was Alexander’s chest.

A sudden jolt of awareness shot through her.

She carefully lifted her head to look at him.

He was still asleep beside her.

Her thoughts spun.

When did he get into bed?

How did she not notice?

And when did his arms wrap around her?

She bit her lip, feeling her face grow warm.

She couldn't help but stare at him.

In sleep, the usual sharpness in his features was gone.

He looked peaceful. Untroubled.

His body heat surrounded her, making her heart beat faster.

Should she wake him?

The decision was taken from her.

A phone began to vibrate on the nightstand.

Evelyn’s eyes snapped toward the sound.

She saw Alexander’s brow furrow slightly.

He was waking up.

A part of her wished the phone would stop.

This quiet moment felt precious.

She decided to answer it for him.

Leaning over him, she reached for the device.

A low, sleep-roughened voice stopped her. "What are you doing?"

She turned and met his dark, intense gaze.

A shiver ran down her spine.

"Your phone," she whispered, pulling back quickly. "It's buzzing."

But he didn't let her go.

His hand pressed firmly against the small of her back, pulling her close again.

"Don't move," he commanded, his voice a husky murmur against her neck.

She froze.

Surprise widened her eyes.

She could feel the hard evidence of his desire pressing against her.

Her cheeks flushed with heat.

She stayed perfectly still.

Alexander held her gaze for a long moment before grabbing the phone.

"Yes?" he answered, his voice now all business.

A voice came through the speaker. "Mr. Blackwood, there's an urgent meeting this morning."

"Understood. I'll be there." His tone was calm, but his arms tightened around her.

He ended the call and looked down at her.

"I have to deal with something today. You should rest at home."

She looked up, confused. "But it's Saturday. Is it that important?"

"Yes," he said firmly, yet he made no move to release her.

She hesitated. "So... what about... now?" Her eyes flickered downward.

Alexander was silent for a beat. "I'll handle it. A cold shower will suffice."

He began to shift, gently moving her aside to sit up.

Evelyn’s eyes widened with concern. The morning was chilly. A cold shower could make him sick.

As he moved toward his wheelchair, her hand darted out, catching his. "Wait."

He paused, looking back at her questioningly.

She took a deep breath, gathering her courage.

"I'm your wife, Alexander. This is normal. You don't have to... I can help you." Her voice was soft but clear.
