Chapter 166: Chapter 166

We Have Visitors

Alexander grasped the situation instantly.

"Tomorrow, I will personally escort those men to the orphanage to apologize," Sebastian stated firmly. "They will apologize to Evelyn as well. Will that be sufficient?"

"Yes," Alexander replied, his tone cool. "Handle it promptly. She is currently quite upset."

He ended the call without another word.

Sebastian was momentarily stunned. "Wow, you're really going all out for Evelyn," he muttered to himself. "I'm the acting CEO, and I have to deliver a personal apology? What does that say about my status?" After a moment's reflection, he decided it wasn't such a bad idea. He had been curious for a while now. What kind of woman had finally managed to capture Alexander Blackwood's heart so completely?

Alexander had been single for years. His heart had remained closed off. Now, someone had finally broken through.

Sebastian felt compelled to offer his full support.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have bothered to involve himself directly with those two fools.

The next morning, Evelyn sat at the dining table. She picked listlessly at her breakfast. Each bite seemed to take forever to chew. Her lack of appetite was obvious.

Alexander watched her silently for several minutes. "What is wrong?" he finally asked.

Evelyn was pulled from her thoughts. She offered him a weak, strained smile. "It's nothing," she said.

In truth, her mind was still at the orphanage. The confrontation replayed in her head.

But Alexander had promised to handle it. She didn't want to nag him about it.

He noticed the faint shadows under her eyes. It was clear she hadn't slept well.

He released a soft sigh. "You should eat something. If this food is not to your liking, inform the staff. They will prepare something else."

Evelyn shook her head quickly. "No, this is fine. Please, don't trouble them."

Alexander smiled faintly. She was always so considerate of others. She constantly put their needs before her own.

Evelyn forced the worries from her mind. She tried to focus on eating.

A short time later, her phone rang. It was Eleanor Jenkins.

Evelyn's heart immediately began to pound. Had those men returned to cause more trouble?

She answered the call quickly, her voice laced with anxiety. "Eleanor? What's wrong?"

"Evelyn," Eleanor said. "We have visitors."

Evelyn's pulse raced. She jumped to her feet. "Don't be afraid! I'm on my way right now!"

Seeing her clear distress, Alexander immediately put down his fork. He wiped his hands with a napkin and prepared to leave with her.

Sebastian had assured him last night the matter was resolved. Was there still an issue?

Alexander frowned.

Eleanor was taken aback. She actually laughed. "Evelyn, it's alright! They didn't come to cause trouble. They're here to apologize. That's why I called you."

Evelyn froze, completely surprised. "Apologize?" she repeated.

So they weren't there to cause problems? They were there to apologize?

Had the situation already been resolved?

Evelyn instinctively looked at Alexander, her mind reeling.

Just then, a man's voice came on the phone.

"Mrs. Blackwood? This is Sebastian Hayes. I wish to offer my most sincere apologies for the recent disturbance. I have come to the orphanage today to make amends. I understand you were raised here and have a deep connection to this place. I was wondering if you might have some time to come by?"
