Chapter 373: Chapter 373

Evelyn hadn't been overly concerned at first.

But the strange, evasive behavior of Alexander's personal assistant made her suspicions flare up again.

She gave him a sharp look and answered the call immediately.

Her logic was simple. If it was a prank, she could just hang up.

"Hello, is this Evelyn Blackwood?" a voice asked as soon as the line connected. "This is the Crestwood Police Department. We have reason to believe your husband, Alexander Blackwood, was involved in a case of trespassing and causing a public disturbance. Your presence at the station may be required."

Evelyn's eyes widened in shock, her mind struggling to process the words.

What? Alexander? Trespassing? Causing a disturbance?

That sounded like the description of a common thug, not the man she knew.

She quickly regained her composure and fixed the assistant with an intense stare. "What is really going on here?"

Seeing no point in further concealment, the assistant let out a heavy sigh and confessed.

"Mrs. Blackwood, Mr. Blackwood confronted Theodore Vance earlier today. They were both taken to the station for questioning," he explained.

A cold wave of worry crashed over Evelyn, pushing all other thoughts from her mind. "I need to go to the police station. Now."

The assistant immediately moved to block her path. "Mrs. Blackwood, I strongly advise against that. Mr. Blackwood can handle this. There is no need for you to get involved."

He felt a profound sense of helplessness.

He hadn't wanted to lie to her from the start.

But the situation had become complicated when Alexander sustained significant injuries.

He knew the truth would devastate Evelyn.

Furthermore, her distress would only amplify Alexander's own anxiety.

As the assistant continued to obstruct her, Evelyn's expression turned to steel. "Why are you stopping me? I am his wife. I will not stand by and do nothing if he is in trouble."

The assistant hesitated, his face a mask of internal conflict.

Evelyn's gaze sharpened, her intuition screaming. "He told you to keep me away, didn't he? What is he hiding? Did he get into a physical fight with Theodore? Is Alexander hurt?"

A sharp, painful tightness gripped her chest.

She grabbed the assistant by his sleeve, her voice low and firm. "He's injured. Tell me the truth. I need to see him. Right now."

Worried he would still follow Alexander's orders and refuse her, Evelyn paused for a moment.

She then pointed decisively towards the solid wall beside them.

"Look at that wall. If you do not take me to him immediately, I will smash my head against it. Think carefully. How will Alexander react if I am the one who ends up in the hospital?"

Evelyn delivered the ultimatum with icy precision.

The assistant was utterly speechless at her intensity.

Considering Evelyn had only recently been discharged from the hospital, a return visit would undoubtedly send Alexander into a frenzy.

If things escalated, the consequences could be catastrophic.

Left with no other choice, the assistant finally relented and escorted her to the police station.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere inside the station was thick with tension. "Officers, you must arrest Theodore Vance!" Margaret Blackwood was frantic, waving her bandaged hands. "Look what he did to me! He's a violent man. You need to lock him up before he tries to finish the job!"

Before the officers could respond, Theodore let out a derisive scoff. "Margaret, I'd be very careful about what you say next. My lawyer will be here shortly. Continue with these baseless accusations, and I will have no choice but to sue you for defamation."
