Chapter 401: Chapter 401

After being turned down repeatedly, Evelyn had no choice but to leave.

As she walked away, Daniel stood by the hospital room door, watching her go. He muttered quietly to himself, "So impatient. I truly don't understand what Mr. Vance sees in you."

A weak voice suddenly called out from inside the room. "Daniel?"

Thrilled, Daniel quickly opened the door. "Mr. Vance! You're awake!"

He saw that Theodore looked pale, his lips dry and cracked from lack of water.

"Mr. Vance, how are you feeling? Would you like some water?" Daniel asked urgently, already moving to pour a glass.

But Theodore's gaze was fixed on the ceiling, his expression deeply troubled. After a moment of silence, he asked, "How long was I unconscious? Where is Evelyn? Is she alright? I thought I heard her voice earlier. Was she here?"

Daniel was startled. He hadn't expected Theodore's first concern to be for Evelyn.

Theodore was exceptional in so many ways—except, it seemed, in his taste for women.

With so many wealthy, beautiful, and devoted women in Crestwood, why was he so fixated on Evelyn?

Frustration simmered inside Daniel.

Struggling to contain his emotions, he decided to omit any mention of the visitor and answered with a bitter edge to his voice.

"Mr. Vance, you shouldn't worry about that cold woman. Evelyn hasn't shown the slightest concern for your condition. You've been out for three days, and she didn't visit even once. Can't you see, Mr. Vance? She doesn't care about you at all! Please, just forget about her."

The brief flicker of hope in Theodore's eyes died instantly.

He let out a bitter chuckle and a heavy sigh. "I should have known. Why would she come? I was just fooling myself again."

Theodore paused, turned his head away, and forced a casual tone. "Evelyn saved my life once. I felt I owed her a debt, but perhaps we're even now."

Daniel caught a glimpse of the hidden pain in Theodore's expression and felt a pang of sympathy. He hesitated, wrestling with whether or not to tell the truth.

Then Theodore spoke with finality. "Start preparing for our departure. We leave in two weeks. There's nothing left for me in Crestwood. Once I'm gone this time, I'm not coming back."

Hearing this, Daniel swallowed the revelation he was about to make.

It seemed Theodore had accepted the situation.

There was no point in revealing the truth now.

Even if he did, it wouldn't change how Evelyn felt about Theodore.

Perhaps it was better to let things lie.

Once they left Crestwood, Theodore would probably move on.

"Understood, Mr. Vance. I'll take care of everything," Daniel replied, feeling a sense of relief.

With Theodore's admirable qualities, he could have his pick of countless other partners. Evelyn was already married to Alexander—she wasn't worthy of Theodore.

The incident might have been a shock, but Daniel feared that Theodore's continued pursuit of Evelyn could only lead to ruin.

Meanwhile, Evelyn, completely unaware of Theodore's feelings, had bought some nutritional supplements. She instructed a nurse to deliver them to his room.

Unbeknownst to her, those supplements were intercepted and discarded by Daniel, never reaching their intended recipient.
