Chapter 407: Chapter 407

Alexander glanced at Evelyn, his expression sincere. "Grandmother, Evelyn is truly one of a kind."

Eleanor's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Is that so? Tell me, what makes her so special?"

He didn't pause, his voice dropping to a tender tone. "Evelyn means the world to me. My love for her makes her utterly irreplaceable."

A warm blush spread across Evelyn's cheeks. Her heart skipped a beat at his declaration.

"Stop that," she whispered, playfully swatting his arm. She felt flustered by his directness in front of his grandmother.

Alexander merely raised an eyebrow, completely unbothered. "Was anything I said incorrect? Or do your feelings for me differ?"

Evelyn's embarrassment deepened. She lowered her gaze, unable to look at him.

Eleanor watched their exchange with a contented smile. Her grandson's devotion was clear.

A broad grin stretched across the older woman's face as she observed the young couple.

Her eyes then drifted meaningfully towards Evelyn's abdomen, her smile widening. "You two are so perfectly matched. I expect it won't be long before I'm holding my first great-grandchild, hmm?"

Evelyn was startled by the forward comment. "Pardon?"

Eleanor's smile was warm and encouraging. "Given how close you and Alexander are, a baby seems like the natural next step, doesn't it?"

Evelyn met Eleanor's expectant gaze and was suddenly reminded of her previous false pregnancy claim. A shadow crossed her features. Her hand instinctively moved to her stomach.

Having grown up without a family, Evelyn yearned deeply for the warmth and connection she'd never known. This fueled her desire to build a family with Alexander.

She had stopped using birth control. They were both healthy, in their prime. By all accounts, she should have been expecting by now.

Yet, there was still no pregnancy to announce.

"Eleanor, I..." Evelyn's voice faltered. A wave of sadness washed over her, leaving her speechless.

Noticing her shift in mood, Alexander quickly interjected. "Grandmother, we have all the time in the world. There's no need to rush into anything."

Hearing this, Eleanor's expression shifted to concern, her brows furrowing. She surmised that the lack of pregnancy news might be because Alexander was reluctant to start a family.

He was probably just enjoying his time alone with his wife!

"You silly boy, are you being cautious or are you just slow?" Eleanor chided him disapprovingly, giving his arm a gentle tap. "It's better to start a family sooner rather than later. Waiting can complicate things for Evelyn physically."

Alexander remained calm, standing protectively beside Evelyn. "Grandmother, it's not like that. Evelyn and I are both focused on our careers right now. We're simply not in any hurry."

Eleanor's expression showed mild frustration, her eyes widening. "Who said anything about Evelyn quitting her job? You can balance a career and a family. If she becomes pregnant, we'll arrange for a personal nutritionist at her office. It won't disrupt her work. And after the baby arrives, don't worry—I will be here to handle everything. You two won't need to lift a finger!"
