Amelia felt a pang of disappointment. "Evelyn's husband doesn't care about her at all. There's definitely something suspicious about this pregnancy. Think again—maybe you missed a detail."
Noticing Amelia's displeasure, Miriam grew anxious.
In front of her daughter, she couldn't afford mistakes. Ensuring Amelia's satisfaction was her top priority.
Her mind raced until suddenly, an idea struck her.
"Oh! Miss Sterling, during my investigation, I discovered Evelyn had a fiancé she was deeply in love with for years—Julian, the son of the Blackwood family. But for some reason, on their wedding day, she abandoned him and married someone else instead."
She hesitated before adding, "Do you think she might still have feelings for Julian? Perhaps marrying someone else was just an act of revenge."
A spark of interest lit up Amelia's eyes. She tapped her fingers thoughtfully. "That's entirely possible. If she was in love with Julian Blackwood, there's a good chance the child she's carrying is his."
A triumphant smile spread across her lips. She turned to her bodyguard. "Find out where Julian is. He might be the key to completely destroying Evelyn."
When Amelia returned home with Miriam, they unexpectedly encountered Jonathan, who hadn't gone out that day. "Jonathan, you're home? Didn't you go to the office?" Amelia asked.
After hearing from Miriam about everything Jonathan had supposedly done for her, Amelia was in a fantastic mood. She cheerfully ran up to her brother, linking her arm through his with a bright, affectionate smile.
Jonathan chuckled. "What, do you wish I worked all the time? Even I need a break sometimes." Jonathan couldn't help but smile as soon as he saw Amelia.
Amelia pouted playfully. "You've got me wrong, Jonathan. I actually wish you'd stay home every day so I could see you more."
He tapped her nose fondly, amusement twinkling in his eyes.
They chatted and laughed for a while before Jonathan's gaze shifted toward Miriam, who stood quietly nearby.
His first thought was of her supposed illness. Without thinking, he asked with concern, "Miriam, how have you been feeling lately?"
Miriam's heart skipped a beat. A flicker of panic crossed her face as she worried he might unknowingly expose the lies she had told Amelia.
Quickly composing herself, she forced a polite smile, lowered her head, and answered softly, "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Sterling. I've been feeling much better."
Jonathan gave a small nod. "That's good to hear. Just don't overwork yourself. I always see you busy. Make sure you get some rest."
Miriam smiled again. "I will. Thank you."
Seeing Jonathan show concern for Miriam only deepened Amelia's trust in her. It reinforced her belief that Miriam had been telling the truth.
After all, why would Jonathan pay so much attention to a mere employee unless she was handling important matters for him?
Feeling even more pleased, Amelia turned to her brother with a sweet smile, gently tugging at his arm. "Jonathan, my birthday party is coming up in a few days. May I invite some new friends?"
