Ethan checked his watch, his brow furrowed with impatience.
“Take me to the office,” he instructed the driver, his tone cold and detached.
“Ethan…” Sophia called out hesitantly.
She had faked a heart condition just to get him to accompany her to the appointment, hoping for more time together.
But now that the check-up was over, his focus had shifted entirely back to work.
“I’m still not feeling well…” she murmured, clutching her chest and feigning paleness.
Ethan gave her a brief, indifferent glance.
“The driver can take you back to the hospital after dropping me off,” he stated flatly.
A wave of despair washed over Sophia. She forced a tight smile.
“It’s just exhaustion. Some rest will help. I’ll be fine.”
“Alright,” he replied dismissively, already engrossed in his documents again.
The atmosphere in the car grew heavy and tense.
Sophia took a sharp breath, struggling to contain her frustration.
“Ethan, are you free tonight? Perhaps we could have dinner together,” she ventured cautiously.
Without looking up, he refused.
“No. I have a meeting tonight.”
Another meeting?
Sophia felt her composure cracking. Her nails dug deep into her palms.
“I understand,” she said, her smile strained.
When the car arrived at her villa, Sophia stormed inside, her expression dark. She threw her bag onto the sofa.
A servant approached nervously. “Miss Reed, shall I prepare dinner?”
“No!” Sophia snapped, making the servant flinch.
Just then, a man in a black suit entered and handed her a file.
“Miss Reed, the information you requested.”
Sophia snatched it and skimmed through the pages. Her eyes widened in shock.
“A child?! She has a child with her?!”
“Yes, Miss Reed. Our investigation shows Isabella disappeared over three years ago and recently returned with a boy around three years old.”
Sophia shot to her feet, pacing angrily. Her heels clicked sharply against the floor.
“Three years ago…” she muttered, recalling Isabella’s strange behavior back then. “She didn’t lose the baby after all?!”
She stopped abruptly, her eyes blazing with determination. “She came back with that child to win Ethan back! I won’t let her!”
Consumed by jealousy, she grabbed her car keys. “Get the car ready!” she ordered coldly.
Determined to confront Isabella immediately, Sophia arrived at the faculty housing. She took a moment to compose herself before entering with poised steps.
Inside, under the soft hallway lighting, Isabella was gently murmuring to a sleeping Liam. She had hoped for a quiet evening, but Sophia’s sudden arrival shattered that peace.
