Chapter 148: Chapter 148

His kiss was demanding, filled with a raw intensity that left Isabella breathless.

She struggled against him, twisting her head away. “Stop… please…”

Ethan’s breathing grew ragged. He lifted her effortlessly and placed her inside the car.

The door slammed shut, sealing them in silence.

He leaned closer, his body pressing hers against the seat. His fingers worked at the buttons of her blouse, baring her shoulders.

Isabella’s eyes widened with alarm. She recognized the dark hunger in his gaze.

A sharp slap rang through the enclosed space.

Ethan froze, surprise flashing across his face. His eyes darkened with swift anger.

“Get a hold of yourself, Ethan!” Her voice shook with fury and fear. “We’re divorced!”

“Divorced?” He brought his face inches from hers. “The papers aren’t finalized. You’re still my wife, Isabella.”

She shut her eyes, tears escaping down her cheeks. He kissed her again, softer this time, but the humiliation cut deeper.

Feeling her tremble, Ethan stilled. He looked at her, conflict swirling in his eyes.

“Where were you these past three years?” His voice was rough.

“That’s none of your concern,” she replied coldly.

“None of my concern?” He gave a bitter laugh. “Is it because of Lucas? Did you ask him to take you away?”

She shoved him back, anger flashing in her eyes.

“Enough, Ethan! You lost any right to control me the day you asked for a divorce. It’s over between us.”

He tried to speak, but she cut him off.

“I said enough!” She took a steadying breath. “Please, just leave me alone.”

She pushed the car door open and stepped out without a backward glance.

Ethan watched her go, his expression unreadable.

Isabella straightened her clothes and walked slowly back to her grandmother’s apartment.

As she entered, a small boy rushed forward and wrapped his arms around her legs.

“Mommy! Where were you? I missed you!” Liam’s voice was sweet and pleading.

Her heart softened instantly. She picked him up, kissing his round cheek.

“I had some things to take care of. Were you good for Grandma?”

“Yes!” He nodded eagerly, clinging to her neck.

She smiled.

“Isabella, you’re back? You’re late.” Eleanor emerged from the kitchen holding a warm bowl of soup. “Come, have some soup.”

“Thank you, Grandma.” She set Liam on the sofa and accepted the bowl.

Eleanor watched her with worried eyes. “Has Lucas been busy lately?”

Isabella paused. “Yes.”

Eleanor sighed. “He’s a good man. He’s been so kind to you and Liam…”

“I know,” Isabella said quietly. “But right now, I need to focus on building my career. I may not have as much time for you and Liam.”
