Chapter 95: Chapter 95

“We’re living in the modern era, yet a CEO like you still thinks women only get ahead through men.” She gave a light laugh. “Don’t you find that rather old-fashioned, Mr. King?”

Alexander’s expression turned icy. “You believe you possess genuine talent?”

His voice was heavy with contempt, as if everything Isabella had ever worked for was nothing but a joke.

She had expected this. Isabella pulled a folder from her bag and handed it to him. “How can you judge what I’m capable of without looking at this?” she challenged. “Or are you afraid you’ll feel guilty once you see what’s inside?”

Alexander narrowed his eyes at her confident posture. He knew she was deliberately provoking him.

Walking away would have been the smarter move.

But her words fueled his anger. It burned out of control.

The idea of being outmaneuvered by her was intolerable. Even though he recognized her tactic, he reacted on impulse. “You’d better hope your skills live up to that confidence,” he warned. “Or you will regret this.”

Isabella met his gaze steadily. A smile full of assurance touched her lips. “We’ll see what happens.”

Lucas soon had the lounge ready for their discussion.

Alexander took his seat. Every movement radiated authority. He casually accepted the folder from Isabella, fully prepared to tear its contents apart.

Isabella sat opposite him. She remained composed and focused. She braced herself for a difficult confrontation.

As Alexander skimmed the documents, his initial skepticism was obvious. But page by page, his demeanor shifted. His doubt gradually gave way to interest.

The depth of Isabella’s preparation was undeniable. Her presentation was clear and compelling.

After thirty minutes, he had reviewed everything. Alexander acknowledged that Isabella was the most innovative and skilled fashion designer he had ever encountered. He realized her designs would likely dominate the market. They perfectly aligned with the new direction his company was pursuing.

Today’s youth sought fashion that expressed their individuality and style. Previously, his brand had been associated with traditional elegance. It failed to connect with the younger generation.

Isabella’s designs captured the latest trends perfectly. Alexander set the folder down. He met Isabella’s eager eyes. “Your work is exactly what our company has been searching for.”

Relief washed over Isabella. She smiled brightly. “Thank you for your approval, Mr. King. I look forward to collaborating with you.” Victory felt within her grasp.

Alexander stood and moved toward the door. “However, we cannot form a partnership.”

“May I ask why not?” Isabella asked, startled. Her fingertips trembled slightly. Was he still holding a grudge? She added quickly, “I apologize if I offended you. I—”

Alexander waved a dismissive hand. A trace of resignation showed on his face. “It’s not about grudges. I realize I judged you too quickly.”

He sighed, looking back at her earnest, slightly pale face. “Ethan spoke to me earlier. Any agreement should be discussed directly with him.”

He paused, then added apologetically, “Trying to bypass him to work with me would be inappropriate.”

Alexander exited through the door. His final words hung in the air. “Miss Scott, I regret this. Your designs are outstanding, but we cannot proceed under these circumstances.”
