Chapter 18: Chapter 19

Alexander's jaw tightened as irritation flickered across his features. "That's enough," he said sharply.

Nathan started to argue, but Victoria placed a gentle hand on his arm, shaking her head subtly. "Drop it, Nathan. It's Dominic's birthday. Let's just go inside."

Seeing the storm brewing in Alexander's eyes, Nathan wisely swallowed his protest.

...

Inside the VIP lounge, Samantha had originally planned to hire some male dancers for entertainment, but Amy vetoed the idea immediately, leaving Samantha pouting in disappointment.

"These guys are absolute perfection—chiseled abs you could wash clothes on! Trust me, one touch and you'd be addicted," Samantha sighed dramatically.

Amy adjusted her dress with a sigh. "I'm preparing for my divorce from Alexander. I can't afford any scandals right now. No room for mistakes."

Samantha nodded in understanding. "You're right. No need to give them ammunition."

Restless without any male company, Samantha turned up the music and started dancing. Moments later, Amy's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen—Benjamin.

With a quick signal to Samantha, Amy stepped out to answer the call.

Benjamin was calling about his plans to open a new music studio. His contract with his agency was ending, and with Amy considering a comeback, he thought it was the perfect opportunity. Amy agreed without hesitation.

After hanging up, Amy headed to the restroom. As she was leaving, she spotted Victoria touching up her lipstick at the sink.

Their eyes met briefly in the mirror before Amy turned to wash her hands.

Just as she was about to leave, Victoria's voice stopped her. "Ms. Sinclair."

Amy turned. "Yes?"

Victoria smiled sweetly and pulled something from her purse. "Take a look. Does this look familiar?"

In her palm lay a simple, weathered cross.

Amy's breath hitched, her fingers tightening around her clutch.

Victoria's smile widened. "Liam told me you prayed with this cross for an entire day and night when he was sick."

Amy's expression turned icy. "What's your point, Ms. Langley?"

Victoria dangled the cross between her fingers. "Liam said his fever broke after you gave him this. So, he gave it to me—for good health, you see."

When Liam was three, a raging fever had nearly taken his life.

Doctors had tried everything—medication, ice baths—but nothing worked. They had even suggested preparing for the worst.

Alexander's sister had proposed euthanasia to spare him further suffering.

But Amy refused to give up.

With modern medicine failing, she turned to faith. Whether coincidence or miracle, the day she returned with the cross, Liam's fever began to subside. From then on, he recovered steadily.

Back when Liam still adored her, he had once whispered, "This is the cross Mommy got for me. I'll keep it safe forever."

Amy never imagined she'd see it in Victoria's hands one day.
