Chapter 225: Chapter 226

Divorce in this modern era was far more complicated than anyone could imagine.

Her attorney had warned her repeatedly—if possible, an amicable settlement was the fastest and most civilized route.

If they had to go through litigation, just securing a court date could take half a year.

And if she wanted a fair division of assets, given the complexity of the Blackwood family fortune? That could stretch into nine months.

Before even stepping foot in court, there was mandatory mediation—another month of waiting.

Only if mediation failed could they officially file.

Her lawyer sighed softly. "Even if you both agree to the divorce, the court may not grant it. You share a child, and Mr. Blackwood hasn’t committed any major marital offenses. The odds aren’t in your favor."

"I know it sounds absurd, but that’s the system. I’ve handled enough cases to know how this plays out."

"If you want this over quickly, Ms. Sinclair, negotiation is your best option."

Amy frowned. "Does the evidence I have prove he’s at fault?"

The lawyer shook his head. "First, it doesn’t confirm infidelity. Even if it did, infidelity rarely impacts asset division unless it escalates to bigamy—living with another partner as if married. Then, maybe, you’d get a slightly better settlement."

"But stripping him of everything? Impossible."

Before this, Amy hadn’t realized how flawed divorce laws were.

Now she understood—the idea that justice always prevailed was nothing but a fairy tale.

In reality, the wicked often walked away unscathed.

Thirty minutes later, Amy stood outside the hospital.

She had already gotten Victoria’s room number from Samantha.

The elevator ascended smoothly to the top floor.

The moment the doors opened, two broad-shouldered guards blocked her path.

"Apologies, Ms. Sinclair. This floor is restricted."

Amy arched a brow. "Who reserved it?"

"Mr. Prescott," the guard answered without hesitation.

Nathan Prescott.

Nathan had gone to extreme lengths to keep her from Alexander—even booking the entire floor.

A quick glance down the hall revealed more guards stationed at the stairwell.

She smirked.

No point in forcing her way in. If Nathan was this determined, she wouldn’t see Alexander today.

Instead of lingering, Amy turned and left.

She knew Nathan was monitoring her. If she waited, Alexander would simply slip out another exit.

When she arrived home, Samantha was sprawled on the couch.

One look at Amy’s expression, and she groaned. "Alexander bailed again?"

"Yep." Amy dropped onto the sofa. "Thanks to Nathan."

She recounted the day’s events.

Samantha cursed under her breath. "That idiot! He’s insufferable."

Amy exhaled. "I’ll try again tomorrow. Victoria can’t possibly be sick every day."

After venting, Samantha suddenly brightened. "Oh! I almost forgot—I have amazing news for you!"
