Amy Sinclair turned her head and spotted three familiar figures entering the clinic. It didn’t take her long to piece together why Dr. Theodore Whitmore had summoned her here.
She wasn’t shocked. After all, Nathan Prescott and Alexander Blackwood had been frantic over Victoria Langley’s condition. Tracking down Dr. Whitmore must have taken considerable effort on their part.
Nathan’s eyes widened in disbelief when he saw her. "Amy, are you so desperate for Alexander’s attention that you’d stalk him here? If you interfere with Victoria’s treatment, I swear—"
Victoria cut in softly, "Nathan, don’t be harsh. Maybe Ms. Sinclair just wanted to see Alexander. That’s why she’s here."
Amy offered a faint, knowing smile. "I arrived first. If anyone’s following anyone, it’s you three trailing after me."
Nathan scoffed. "Who would follow a housewife? No, you’re the one who couldn’t handle Alexander standing you up, so you hunted him down. Pathetic."
Amy chuckled. "You’re right. I have no shame—unlike the woman who clings to married men. Without my face to borrow, she’d never dare show hers in public."
Nathan’s face flushed with anger. He jabbed a finger at her, struggling to form a retort. Victoria, visibly uncomfortable, shifted awkwardly.
Alexander’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening. The frost in his gaze made it clear he believed Amy was here to cause trouble.
"Amy," he said in a low voice, "I know why you came. I stood you up that day. I’ll make it up to you."
Victoria’s eyes flickered with something unreadable, while Nathan couldn’t hold back.
"Alexander, she’s here to sabotage things! Open your eyes!"
Amy had had enough. "First," she said coolly, "I didn’t follow anyone. Second, my presence has nothing to do with you. I’m here to see Dr. Whitmore, not you."
She locked eyes with Alexander, her tone bold and unflinching. "And finally—you promised we’d finalize our divorce, Alexander. You broke that promise."
The room went deathly silent. Alexander’s expression turned stormy, while Nathan and Victoria gaped at her.
Divorce? That was what their meeting had been about?
Nathan barked out a laugh. "Divorce? Alexander told us it was a date!"
"Is this your new strategy?" he sneered. "Threatening divorce to get his attention? Amy, playing hard to get doesn’t work like this. A woman shouldn’t throw around empty threats."
Victoria, regaining her composure, added with false sweetness, "Alexander, Ms. Sinclair was just joking. Don’t take it seriously. Maybe you’ve been too busy lately, and she’s feeling neglected. That’s why she said something so drastic..."
