Chapter 236: Chapter 237

Alexander seemed to realize his mistake, and for once, his voice wasn't as cold as it usually was.

"That day Victoria had her medical appointment, I truly couldn't leave," he explained.

Amy's lips curled into a mocking smile. "You couldn't even spare a minute to send me a message? And then you promised you'd come in the afternoon, only to disappear again."

"You didn’t show up, Alexander. Not a call, not a text. You run a billion-dollar company, yet you can’t keep a simple promise? What kind of man does that?"

Her sharp gaze cut through him, a stark contrast to the composed, gentle woman everyone thought they knew. It unsettled him.

His jaw tightened, his voice dropping dangerously low. "Amy, you're being unreasonable. You weren’t like this before."

She let out a bitter laugh. "You break your word repeatedly, and now I'm the unreasonable one? Tell me, Alexander, do you treat your business partners this way too?"

"When they ask where you are, do you call them unreasonable?"

His expression darkened. "Amy, you're my wife. You're supposed to understand me better than anyone else."

Her face twisted with derision. "Don't throw that word around like it means something. Do you even hear yourself?"

"Your mother is the most important woman in your life. Would you stand her up like this? Would you break promises to her the way you do to me?"

Amy met his gaze, her words deliberate. "I'm just convenient. Someone you expect to wait around whenever it suits you."

"I doubt you'd dare treat anyone else this way."

For a moment, Alexander was speechless. Because she was right—he wouldn’t treat anyone else like this.

Somewhere deep down, he had always assumed she would forgive him, no matter what. That she would never push back.

But now, he realized—he had taken her for granted.

This time, he had gone too far.

His voice softened. "I was wrong. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. If something comes up, I’ll call you."

All he got in return was Amy’s hollow laugh.

"Alexander, I don’t believe you anymore."

She didn’t want to rehash old wounds. She already knew the truth—he had never truly cared.

But this time, he had crossed a line.

Holding his gaze, she said, "Also, I’ve filed for divorce. When we go to court, I hope you won’t have another emergency that keeps you from showing up."

With that, she turned and walked toward the clinic, not sparing him another glance.

Before she entered, she nearly collided with Nathan, who had been unceremoniously kicked out, caught between an old man and a child he couldn’t handle.

As they passed, she heard him scoff under his breath.

Amy ignored him and kept walking.

Alexander stood frozen, his dark eyes fixed on the spot where she had disappeared.

Nathan sidled up to him, curiosity dripping from his tone. "Alex, what did she want? Still mad about you missing that date?"

"Missed one, and now she’s making a scene, huh?"
