Chapter 292: Chapter 293

Amy Sinclair narrowed her eyes, studying Alexander Blackwood with an unwavering intensity. "You're not getting cold feet now, are you, Mr. Blackwood?"

Alexander's voice was frosty. "After everything you've just said, do you honestly believe I'd back out?"

No man with even an ounce of pride would dare retreat now.

Still, who knew what schemes Alexander was concocting? When it came to cunning and strategy, Amy was well aware she couldn't match him.

A faint smirk tugged at Alexander's lips, though his gaze remained glacial. "I haven't even verified your so-called medicine yet. What if you're handing me poison? I'd be left with nothing—no marriage, no compensation."

He used to think Amy was too timid to ever deceive him. But lately, he wasn't so sure.

Her reckless spending and the chaos she'd stirred up had proven one thing: Amy was anything but meek. In fact, she was bold—sometimes alarmingly so.

Didn't she realize his enemies could crush her without a second thought, leaving her utterly humiliated?

"Left with nothing..." Amy repeated softly.

To him, their marriage was nothing more than a transaction—a deal to be negotiated whenever it suited him.

Perhaps there was some lingering affection, or she wouldn't have endured this loveless union for so long. But whatever feelings he had for her would never compare to what he felt for Victoria.

A bitter smile flickered across Amy's lips.

"If you're worried about poison or counterfeit medicine, that's easily resolved," she said.

Rising from her seat, Amy strode to the door where Victoria Langley stood, watching anxiously.

Victoria had been hovering in the hallway, her nerves fraying as she realized Amy hadn't left yet. Had she changed her mind?

Lately, Amy had made Nathan Prescott's life miserable. If Victoria hadn't restrained Nathan—fearing Amy might back out—he would have sought revenge long ago.

Noticing the flash of panic in Victoria's eyes, Amy smiled. "Mr. Blackwood is concerned the medicine I brought you isn't genuine. He's afraid he'll sign the divorce papers and get nothing in return."

She pulled several pill bottles from her bag and extended them. "Ms. Langley, feel free to take samples from each bottle and have them tested. If everything checks out, we can proceed immediately."

Her tone sharpened. "But if there's an issue... well, we'll have to renegotiate."

Victoria's gaze darted nervously. "Alright."

She selected a few pills at random and turned to leave.

"Wait," Amy called.

Victoria froze, shoulders stiffening as she glanced back. "Is... is there something else?"

Right now, Victoria didn't dare provoke Amy. One wrong word, and Amy might refuse the divorce altogether.

Amy saw right through her hesitation and offered a serene smile. "Alexander and I will wait here for your results, Ms. Langley. I do hope you'll hurry—otherwise, this mandatory waiting period will be wasted, and we'll have to start the entire month over."

Victoria shot Alexander an uneasy look before murmuring, "I'll go check them now."

With that, she hurried away.

Amy settled back into her chair, closing her eyes as if to rest, exuding quiet confidence.

The so-called "life-saving medicine" she'd given Victoria was identical to last time—her own special blend. But Amy wasn't the least bit concerned about the test results.

Even if she had slipped actual poison into those pills, Victoria would lie and declare them genuine.
