Alexander had never lowered himself to participate in any schemes against Amy.
Of all the events that had unfolded, the only one he had orchestrated was the freezing of Amy's hundred-million-dollar assets. But even then, he had merely frozen the account—he never attempted to claim the money for himself.
After years of friendship with Alexander, Nathan knew better than to assume his restraint was born of generosity or indifference. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
No, Alexander was using the money as leverage, hoping to force Amy to return.
To him, this divorce wasn’t a final severance. Alexander had countless ways to prolong the separation, to ensure Amy could never truly leave him—yet he hadn’t employed any of them.
Because, in his mind, Amy needed to learn the hard way. Without him, she would have nothing.
If he didn’t let her struggle, if he didn’t let her see the brutal reality of life without him, she would cling to her naïve optimism. It was better for her to realize now that without his protection, even survival would be a challenge.
Soon enough, she would come crawling back—and any thought of escape would vanish.
So, Nathan’s scheming? Alexander didn’t interfere, but he didn’t stop it either.
Now, Nathan’s eyes gleamed as he spotted a tall, imposing figure approaching in the distance.
"Alex is here!" he murmured under his breath.
Victoria glanced at Amy, trapped in the center of the crowd, then back at Alexander as he strode closer. She whispered, "Nathan, do you think Alex will be angry when he sees Amy being cornered like this?"
"Angry? Why would he be?" Nathan replied with a smirk. "He’ll be delighted. We’re practically handing him the perfect opportunity—Amy will have no choice but to beg him for help. Though, honestly..."
Victoria finished his thought with a knowing smile. "Honestly, with Amy’s stubbornness, I doubt she’d ever lower herself to begging."
Nathan nodded. "Exactly. The more she resists, the worse things will get between them. When that happens, we can finally make our move without worrying about Alexander interfering."
For now, Nathan wasn’t willing to push things to the extreme. If he wanted, he could spread a few vicious rumors and destroy Amy’s reputation in an instant—but he held back.
Suddenly, the crowd erupted in murmurs of surprise.
"Wait, is that Alexander Blackwood? What’s he doing here?"
"Does this mean... what that woman said was true?"
A few reporters had noticed Alexander’s arrival, and their expressions shifted instantly.
Earlier, they had bombarded Amy with accusations—claiming she had impersonated Mrs. Blackwood to deceive people, suggesting that was why she was in trouble. Amy, however, had calmly countered, "At the time, Alexander and I weren’t divorced. I was, by every definition, Mrs. Blackwood."
She wasn’t about to stand there silently and let the rumors spiral. The divorce was already public knowledge—she had nothing to lose by stating the truth, no matter how it reflected on Alexander or Blackwood Enterprises.
Her response left the crowd momentarily stunned.
They had only heard that this woman was impersonating Mrs. Blackwood—no one had told them she actually was Mrs. Blackwood!
And what had she just revealed? They weren’t divorced at the time? Meaning... they were divorced now?
The revelation sent the reporters reeling, barely able to process the implications when suddenly, Alexander appeared.
Was he here to rescue his wife?
Nervous whispers rippled through the press. No one wanted to provoke Alexander’s wrath.
Alexander paused as he spotted Amy surrounded by the mob, momentarily taken aback.
Not far away, Nathan waved at him, then gave a subtle signal with his eyes. Alexander took in the scene at a glance—he understood immediately.
The reporters, spotting Alexander, swarmed toward him like moths to a flame. But this time, there was no pushing, no shouting—everyone kept a respectful distance, suddenly very polite. No one dared treat him the way they had treated Amy moments before.
