"An absolutely mesmerizing performance. Mr. Pendleton certainly knows how to spot talent."
"And she's breathtaking. The longer you look, the more striking she becomes."
"Another musical genius, it seems. The industry is about to witness the rise of a new star."
"After tonight, Ms. Langley has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on Newhaven's elite. Her future is practically written in gold."
Victoria dipped into a graceful bow, then exited the stage to roaring applause.
After her performance, Amy remained seated, content to enjoy the rest of the show.
Nearly half an hour later, the musical segment concluded, and other acts took the stage.
Amy checked her watch and decided it was time to find Victoria.
But as she made her way backstage, a sudden commotion caught her attention.
It struck her as odd—Alexander hadn’t called or texted once to check on her.
Unless...
Drawn by the noise, Amy followed the sound and found a crowd gathered outside a dressing room.
Peering through the gaps, she saw Alexander carrying a woman in his arms.
The woman was disheveled—Alexander’s suit jacket draped over her shoulders, her hair tangled, one cheek swollen and red.
It was Victoria.
Nathan appeared out of nowhere, stepping up beside Alexander.
Alexander turned, his gaze sharp. "Did you find out what happened?"
Nathan’s jaw clenched. "The bastard who attacked Victoria is Zachary—some entitled playboy, notorious in these circles. First time he saw her, thought she was just another fresh face. Got drunk and decided to make a move..."
"But Victoria fought back—smashed a lamp over his head. He’s in the hospital now with a concussion. And he’s threatening to make her pay for it."
Zachary?
Amy’s eyes narrowed. She remembered the name from her time with the Harringtons—his family was influential, powerful.
Alexander’s voice cut through the air like ice. "From this moment on, I don’t want to hear that name in Newhaven again."
Amy understood immediately—Zachary was about to be erased from the city’s elite circles.
Nathan nodded. "Understood. I’ll handle it."
"Wait."
Alexander stopped him with a single word.
Nathan turned. "What else?"
Alexander’s dark eyes were glacial. "A man like that doesn’t deserve freedom. Make sure he ends up behind bars."
Nathan smirked. "Don’t worry. I’ll ensure he gets a proper welcome in prison."
Watching the scene unfold, Amy couldn’t help but recall an old saying: A man’s wrath burns hottest for the woman he loves.
Someone like Zachary, with his family’s influence—just like that, he was being condemned to prison. No hesitation, no fear of repercussions.
Victoria’s voice was soft. "Alexander, I’m fine, really. You don’t have to do this for me..."
Before she could finish, Alexander’s voice snapped, cold and unyielding.
"Fine? Then tell me, what would you consider not fine?"
Victoria lowered her gaze. "I’m sorry. I haven’t been back in Newhaven long. I didn’t realize how things worked here. I never thought someone would be so bold. If I’d known, I would have avoided him..."
She trailed off as her eyes landed on Amy in the crowd.
Victoria paused. "Ms. Sinclair? What are you doing here? Were you looking for Alexander?"
