Chapter 494: Chapter 499

Alexander had no patience for further discussion. He interrupted sharply, "Rather than wasting your breath on me, why don't you investigate that woman? Determine if she deliberately sought out Grandfather."

Theodore Jr. sighed but didn't press the matter.

Backstage, Amy's phone buzzed. It was Theodore Whitmore.

"Amy, I'm swarmed with old acquaintances tonight. I won't be able to check in on you. Stick to the performance schedule we planned. Once it's over, I'll introduce you to everyone," he said, his voice nearly drowned out by the lively chatter around him.

"Don't worry about us. We've got everything under control," Amy reassured him before hanging up. She glanced at the clock, then quickly gathered the musicians.

"Benjamin, you'll open with a solo."

Benjamin was the obvious choice—even if the elderly audience didn’t recognize him, his reputation would set the right tone for the charity concert.

But instead of responding, Benjamin stared blankly into the distance, lost in thought. Lately, he'd been distracted, making uncharacteristic mistakes during rehearsals. Was he still dwelling on what happened last time?

Before Amy could ponder further, Isabella returned. This time, Amy had included her in the program. Both she and Benjamin played violin, as did Oliver. Too many similar performances risked boring the audience, so Amy had arranged for Isabella to bridge the pieces with a piano interlude. Theodore had approved the idea and encouraged her to take charge.

Though this was just a small concert for seniors, for Amy, it was her first major public performance. She wanted it to be flawless.

Noticing the troubled expression on Isabella's face, Amy asked, "Is something wrong?"

Isabella hesitated before confessing, "I think I just saw my ex-boyfriend."

"Your ex?" Amy echoed.

Isabella nodded. "A group just arrived. He was among them. His name is Adrian Whitmore."

Samantha, who had been listening, frowned. "Are you sure it was him? Most of tonight's guests are elderly, aren't they?"

"Adrian Whitmore," Isabella repeated. "Do you think he could be related to Mr. Whitmore?"

When she first learned Theodore's surname, the possibility hadn’t crossed her mind. After all, Whitmore was common, and from what Amy and Samantha had told her, Theodore was just a retired doctor spending his savings to host a concert for local seniors.

But seeing Adrian tonight made her reconsider. Adrian came from a powerful family. If not for her unwavering support during his struggles, his parents would never have accepted her. Given his connections, could there really be a link to Theodore?

Amy and Samantha exchanged glances.

"I've worked with Mr. Whitmore for months," Amy said slowly, "but I've never met any of his family."
