"Mom? You mean Amy?" Alexander turned his head, confusion written across his face. "But I thought your mother was supposed to be that woman over there?"
His gaze flickered toward Victoria, lying motionless in the hospital bed. "Weren't you two just together at the school event earlier?"
Liam's expression remained unreadable. "Just because she participated in activities with me doesn't make her my mother."
"But when people asked, you never corrected them," Alexander pointed out, his tone laced with innocent curiosity. "And didn't you say Amy was your nanny?"
The word nanny lingered in the air like an unspoken accusation.
A ripple of discomfort spread through the room. Though the truth had always been an open secret, no one had dared to voice it aloud. If it got out that Mrs. Blackwood was merely the family nanny, it wouldn’t be Amy who suffered the backlash—it would be Alexander and the entire Blackwood name.
Just then, Sebastian, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. "Celeste, I have something for you."
All eyes turned to him. A faint smirk played on his lips as he handed her a sleek smartphone.
Amy unlocked it, finding a video already queued up. As she pressed play, the footage revealed Victoria and herself on the staircase. It was the incident that had landed Victoria in the hospital.
Amy's breath hitched. "This is..."
Sebastian's voice was smooth, almost amused. "This is the real reason Ms. Langley took that fall."
"Video?" Victoria's voice wavered, her fingers tightening around the bedsheets. "But... there weren’t any cameras in that hallway..."
Amy arched a brow. "Ms. Langley, how do you know there was no surveillance?"
Realizing her mistake, Victoria forced a shaky smile. "When I went to find Liam, I checked the area. I didn’t see any cameras..."
Sebastian chuckled, the sound lazy and knowing. "Officially, no, there weren’t. But Oliver happened to be recording Celeste and caught something... interesting."
The phone’s high-definition screen displayed every detail with startling clarity—Victoria chasing after Amy, then stumbling and falling on her own.
Silence descended as the video ended.
Sebastian smirked. "No official footage, but luckily, we had an eyewitness. Otherwise, Celeste would’ve been blamed for something she didn’t do."
Victoria quickly interjected, "I never accused Ms. Sinclair of pushing me!"
Amy’s gaze sharpened. "But when everyone assumed it was me, you didn’t deny it either."
Nathan’s face flushed with embarrassment, realizing he had jumped to conclusions. Still, he refused to back down. "Well, Liam said he saw it happen. When your own son claims something, who would doubt him?"
Liam stared at the looping video, his expression conflicted. "Mom and Victoria were close, and then Victoria fell. I thought... I thought..."
Oliver, who had been quiet until now, tilted his head in genuine confusion. "Why would you ever think your mom would do something like that?"
