Chapter 242: Chapter 242

Sophia had also pointed out that William had abandoned Elise, leaving her emotionally fragile. If Samuel made the first move, there was a chance Elise might let go of their past conflicts. Sophia insisted he should overlook her own feelings, emphasizing that getting Mitchell Corp through this crisis was the top priority.

Sophia truly believed their bond was unbreakable and steady.

Her resolve touched Samuel deeply, making him grateful to have such a devoted woman supporting him.

“Handling Elise won’t be that straightforward,” Samuel responded, then recounted everything that had transpired.

Sophia let out a cold laugh after hearing the details. She knew Elise inside out. Even if Samuel begged on his knees or sacrificed himself, Elise would remain unmoved.

That woman wanted Samuel to destroy himself.

“It’s probably just a matter of time. You hurt my sister so deeply before, so it’s natural she’s being cautious,” Sophia reassured him.

“But time isn’t on our side. I heard Elise is starting her bids this week, and Mitchell Corp can’t hold out much longer. The stock market is plummeting too rapidly. If we don’t secure funds soon, bankruptcy is inevitable,” Samuel said anxiously.

“What can we do then?” Sophia’s voice trembled, tears welling in her eyes. “Isn’t there any way to force her to cooperate with Mitchell Corp?”

“I don’t have any leverage over her right now…” Samuel’s voice trailed off, his mind racing.

A method to compel Elise to work with Mitchell Corp?

Samuel suddenly straightened, a sinister gleam flashing in his eyes.

“Sophia, do you trust what we have?”

“Of course I do. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have encouraged you to pursue my sister despite knowing your history. I just want you and Mitchell Corp to survive. For that, I can endure anything right now,” Sophia declared firmly.

“That’s all I needed to hear,” Samuel replied. “I promise you now, no matter what happens, you’re the only one I want as my wife.”

“I understand. I’ll always be here waiting for you,” Sophia said obediently.

They exchanged a few more sentimental vows before ending the call.

After hanging up, Sophia’s smile twisted into something dark. If Samuel wasn’t a fool, he would know exactly what he needed to do to Elise. Once he made his move, Sophia would have the perfect opportunity to betray him. Not only could she sever ties with Samuel and play the victim, but she could also ruin both Samuel and Elise’s reputations.

It was a perfect two-for-one strike!

She never engaged in deals where she came out losing.

Night had fallen. William and Elise stood at the hospital entrance, and William took the car keys from Elise. Glancing at the understated Lexus, he asked, “Your car?”

“Yes,” Elise replied.

William opened the driver’s door and got in. Elise pressed her lips together but quietly took the passenger seat.

The drive to Elise’s residence at Crestwood Heights was silent, arriving at three-ten in the morning.

She had a crucial bidding meeting at eight-thirty the next morning, requiring discussions with senior management. By the time she got home, showered, and got into bed, it would be at least four AM. She needed to be up by seven-thirty to make the meeting on time, leaving her with just three and a half hours of sleep.

Elise gazed out the window at the passing night scenery, then said calmly, “William, if you have something to say, now’s the time.”

She didn’t want to waste what little sleep time she had left.
