The door swung open easily when Ethan turned the handle.
He found Nathan lying on top of Elizabeth on the floor.
Their position looked...compromising.
Ethan immediately spun around in shock.
His mind had raced with worst-case scenarios.
That's why he'd burst in without hesitation.
This intimate scene was the last thing he expected.
"Ethan!" Elizabeth called out urgently.
He had been about to hurry away when her voice stopped him.
Ethan froze. "I didn't mean to interrupt..."
"Please help me. Nathan needs the bathroom." Elizabeth gasped for air.
She had been assisting Nathan to the bathroom when he stumbled in his drunken state.
His full weight came crashing down on her.
The impact knocked the breath from her lungs.
Trapped beneath him, she couldn't move.
Ethan moved quickly to lift Nathan off her.
Nathan swayed as he stood, muttering, "Lizzy, did I hurt you? Lizzy..."
"No, you're fine..." Elizabeth lied breathlessly.
In truth, her backside throbbed from the hard landing.
Just how much had Nathan drunk tonight?
"Bathroom?" Ethan confirmed.
Nathan clearly wasn't in any state to communicate.
"Yes."
Ethan guided the unsteady Nathan toward the bathroom.
Nathan fumbled clumsily with his trousers before the toilet.
After several failed attempts, he still couldn't manage the task.
Elizabeth approached the bathroom doorway. "Is he finished?"
"Wait outside." Ethan immediately shifted to block her view.
"Why won't these pants come down..." Nathan's voice strained with urgency.
"Let me help him," Elizabeth offered without thinking.
She could tell Nathan was desperate to relieve himself.
"I'll handle it," Ethan interjected quickly. "Wait in the hallway..."
With one hand steadying Nathan, he used the other to assist with the trousers.
His movements carried a distinct sense of emergency.
"Done!" Ethan announced loudly.
He wasn't sure whether he was informing Nathan or Elizabeth.
Soon, the sound of flowing water echoed from the bathroom.
Elizabeth stood awkwardly outside before deciding to retreat.
Then her earlier words replayed in her mind...
She hadn't considered the implications at the time.
If Ethan hadn't been present, she would have helped Nathan herself.
After Nathan finished, Ethan guided him to the sink.
He washed Nathan's hands and face thoroughly.
He wiped down Nathan's torso and even rinsed his feet.
After a moment's consideration, he suggested, "Elizabeth, bring Nathan's pajamas. I'll change him."
Shortly after, Elizabeth handed Ethan the same pajamas he'd worn earlier.
They were the only pair she kept in her apartment.
Ethan didn't question it and efficiently changed Nathan into them.
Once dressed, he helped Nathan back into bed.
By then, Ethan was drenched in sweat and breathing heavily...
