Chapter 34: Chapter 34

Wendy had a rough night, plagued by nightmares and waking up drenched in sweat.

When she arrived at Blue Ridge Medical Center. Michael immediately pulled her aside to show her a post on the hospital's internal forum.

Seeing the serious look on Michael's face, Wendy felt a chill run down her spine and asked quietly, "What's going on?"

Michael pointed to a post on the forum.

The bold red letters on the homepage were glaring.

#Can The New Intern Who's Been Out Of School For Years And Has Zero Medical Experience Get The Hell Out Of Our Hospital?

Just from the title, everyone immediately thought of Wendy.

Wendy had already attracted a lot of attention when she first arrived at Blue Ridge Medical Center yesterday.

Now, with this news, everyone was clicking to see what it was about.

The post was from a newly created account, but the content was explosive.

[Wendy took several years off from school and didn't engage in any medical work during that time. How did she manage to get an internship at our hospital? Did she use her body to get the position?]

The post included some of Wendy's background information, clearly showing her long hiatus and lack of medical experience.

|Look at our intern Wendy. She has no continuous medical education or

relevant work experience, yet she managed to get into one of the top hospitals in the country. Our hospital has never made such special hires before, so Wendy must have used some underhanded means to get in.]

The post sparked a heated discussion on the forum.

Even colleagues who had a good impression of Wendy stamted to gossip.

"Really? Wendy took that much time off and didn't do any medical work?"

"Yeah, I checked. She really hasn't been in school or worked in the medical field for a long time."

"How can someone like that be an intern here? What were the leaders thinking?"

"They probably didn't want to, but she must have used some shady methods."

"It's disgusting. What kind of doctor would she make?"

Wendy, already under scrutiny, now faced even more backlash.

The forum comments were skyrocketing, and the post went viral within Blue Ridge Medical Center.

Michael tried to comfort Wendy, "Don't worry, I'll get this sorted out.I won't let you be wronged."

Wendy smiled faintly, not too concerned.

It was obvious who was behind this.

She waved off Michael's concern with a smile, "It's nothing.just some rumors. Anyone with a bit of discernment won't be fooled. As long as I do

my job well, the truth will speak for itself, and the rumors will naturally fall apart."

Michael couldn't help but admire Wendy's calm demeanor.

They returned to their department to continue working.

The sound of sirens grew louder as an ambulance turned into the emergency entrance, its sharp wail trailing off as it parked in the ER bay.

A stretcher was pulled out from the back.

Oliver was curled up on the stretcher, drenched in cold sweat, clutching his abdomen, his body trembling uncontrollably.

This robust man from out of town had been struck by severe abdominal pain at a local hotel.

The front desk staff quickly called 911, and he was brought to Blue Ridge Medical Center.

In a daze, he felt a sharp pain in his arm, heard a flurry of questions, and saw white-clad figures moving around.

As the pain subsided a bit, this nearly 6'5" man found himself lying in a bed in the second internal medicine ward.

"I'm Dr. Knight. I need to know your medical history."

Despite the pain still raging inside him, Oliver forced himself to look up and saw Wendy, who appeared somewhat slender.

She wore a clean, short-sleeved white coat with a small light blue emblem on her chest, under a sunburst design that read "Blue Ridge Medical Center."

"Water..." Oliver weakly uttered.

"You can't drink water now; you have an emergency surgery this afternoon," Wendy refused firmly but, seeing his chapped lips, couldn't help but feel sorry.

She dipped a cotton swab in water and gently applied it torhis lips.

The extreme thirst made Oliver unable to resist this small relief. Grateful for this tiny "concession," he took a breath and began to describe his symptoms since the previous night.

At that moment, a young, handsome doctor walked into the room, standing tall with a clear face and a few casual strands of hair falling over his forehead.

He glanced at the saline bottle label above the bed.

Oliver saw his namne tag; it was his attending physician, Michael.

"Wendy, fill out a surgery request for 2 PM," he instructed simply.

"Got it, Dr. Chase," Wendy responded crisply.

As the clock struck noon, the ward grew quieter, with the sound of saline bottle changes ringing intermittently. The patient in the left bed snored loudly and intermittently.

"Doctor, my family isn't here. Do I have to have the surgery this afternoon?" Oliver asked quickly during a lull in the pain.

"If your family isn't here, you sign the consent yourself. If you don't have the surgery, your appendix will burst, and peritonitis is very troublesome.understand?" Michael said sternly, frowning.

Oliver nodded in compliance.

Michael then continued his rounds in other rooms.

Wendy proceeded with Oliver's pre-surgery checks.

Just as she finished, Chris was wheeled in by an orderly to see her.

Wendy approached him,"Chris, what are you doing here?"

Chris looked worried, "Wendy, I heard from the orderly that someone is slandering you online, saying really nasty things! Should I ask Alexander to help clear things up?"

Wendy took the wheelchair handles from the orderly and gently reassured him, "No need, I can handle this myself. No need to trouble Alexander."

Seeing her firm stance, Chris nodded obediently.

"Have you eaten?" Wendy asked with concern.

Chris shook his head,"No."

His meals were usually prepared by his family's chef and delivered to him.

Today, the food had already been delivered, but he lost his appetite upon hearing about Wendy's trouble.

Wendy pursed her lips. "How about we go to the cafeteria and grab a bite together?"

"Sure," Chris agreed readily.

So, Wendy pushed Chris to the cafeteria.

"What do you like to eat? It's on mne today." Wendy said cheerfully.

Chris didn't hold back, smiling, "Alright, I'll have the most expensive one then!"

"Deal."

After ordering their food, they had just taken a fewv bites when they overheard some medical staff nearby gossiping.

"Look, isn't that Wendy and Chris from the Turner family? What are they doing together?"

"Yeah, why are they eating in the cafeteria together?"

"Exactly, how could Wendy be involved with Mr. Turner?"
