Chapter 40: Chapter 40

"Enough," Ethan snapped, his voice tinged with frustration. "I'm beat. I'm heading upstairs to crash for a bit."

With that, Ethan turned and trudged upstairs, leaving the three women downstairs exchanging puzzled glances.

Sarah's eyes widened as she turned to Lydia. "What's up with Ethan?"

Lydia shook her head and examined the photos closely, zooming in on them.

Her heart skipped a beat. Although the photos didn't show the man's face clearly, she recognized him.

After a moment of thought, she spoke again, "Mrs. Collins, Sarah, do you know who the guy in the photos is?"

Sarah rolled her eyes. "Who cares? What kind of decent guy would Wendy be able to hook'up with anyway?"

Except, the guy did have a pretty good physique.

Juniper, on the other hand, was intrigued. "Lydia, if you know that guy, that's great. You can call him out, and we'll have the evidence we need to prove Wendy's cheating!"

Lydia quickly shook her head, looking troubled. "I'm afraid I don't have that kind of pull. This man is Alexander."

"What?" Sarah's voice rose as she rushed forward to enlarge the photos and scrutinize them again.

It was Alexander!

She had been so focused on gloating and plotting to reclaim the Starlight Bay Villa that she hadn't paid much attention to the man in the photos.

Even though Alexander had helped Wendy out today, she couldn't believe that Wendy, that useless woman, could actually get close to Alexander.

Sarah and Juniper were fuming.

Lydia sighed softly and said, "I never expected Ms. Knight to have such a good match. But does Mr. Turner know that Ms. Knight has been divorced?"

Sarah and Juniper exchanged a glance at Lydia's words.

Right, even if Wendy wanted to seduce Alexander, how could a family like the Turners ever accept a divorced woman like her?

Ethan went upstairs alone, his mind filled with images of Wendy and the man in the photo being intimate.

Hlis brow furrowed, and in his agitation, he walked to the window, pulled out a cigarette from the pack, and lit it.

Could Wendy really have moved on so quickly after their separation?

Thinking about how calm and composed Wendy had been when she left.Ethan felt it wasn't entirely impossible.

During their time together, he had never cared about her feelings. Now,the photo was driving him crazy.

Taking a deep drag on his cigarette. Ethan picked up his phone and found the number he hadn't contacted in a long time.

Curiosity and frustration gnawed at him. He felt he had to talk to Wendy and find out what was going on.

The call connected quickly, but a mechanical voice answered, "Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Ethan frowned and hung up, his stubbornness flaring up. He dialed the number again.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable..."

With a loud crash, Ethan threw his phone onto the nearby table, his face dark with anger and frustration.

'Damn it, Wendy! You actually blocked my number!'

The next day, it was time to head to work, but the rain hadn't let up.

The rainhad been falling for days, blanketing the entire city in a thick layer of mist.

Wendy stood at the bus stop, dressed in a light blue casual outfit, staring blankly at the gray sky.

She had trouble sleeping last night and had only fallen into a fitful sleep late.

The wind was strong, and even with an umbrella, she was getting soaked.

She pulled her coat tighter around herself.

The bus was unusually late today, and she had been waiting for a long time without any sign of it.

Just as she was anxiously looking out for it, a black Bentley slowly

approached from the corner.

The car stopped steadily in front of the bus stop, and the driver's window rolled down, revealing a cold, handsome profile.

"Get in," a deep, magnetic voice said calmly.

Wendy was stunned for a couple of seconds before realizing it was Alexander's voice.

She hesitated for a moment, then turned and walked to the car, opening the passenger door and getting in.

The car was warm, and as the door closed, the warmth chased away the chill of the rain.

Alexander started the car, gradually picking up speed and merging into traffic.

Wendy glanced at Alexander beside her.

He was focused on the road ahead, his handsome face partially hidden in the dim light, making it hard to read his expression.

After a moment of hesitation, Wendy couldn't help but speak."Thanks,Mr.Turner."

Alexander kept his eyes on the road. "Call me Alexander. 'Mr. Turner'sounds too formal."

Wendy pressed her lips together. Although she felt they weren't close enough for first names, she nodded obediently. "Okay."

Alexander smiled slightly. "Had breakfast yet?"

Wendy shook her head. "No. I was planning to grab something from the café near the hospital."

"You shouldn't eat out when you're not well," Alexander said, pointing to a thermos beside him. "My chef made some breakfast. Try it and see if you like it."

Wendy looked at the thermos. "But..."

"Take it," Alexander insisted, placing it in her hands.

Wendy held the thermos, hesitated for a moment, then accepted it."Thanks."

"Stop thanking me," Alexander said, his tone softening. "You need to take care of yourself. Chris and I are worried about you."

"Okay," Wendy nodded gently.

Alexander smiled and turned his attention back to driving.

The car fell silent.

Wendy looked down at the thermos in her lap, her emotions mixed.

Soon, they arrived at Blue Ridge Medical Center.

Not wanting to be seen arriving in Alexander's car, Wendy asked him to drop her off at a corner before the hospital and walked the rest of the way alone.

Once inside, she organized the lab reports, filing them into patient charts and stacking them on the cart. These tedious tasks were part of her intern duties.

Then, she grabbed her stethoscope and headed to Oliver's room.

After all, he was her first patient, and she needed to pay extra attention to him.
