"Feel ashamed?" Wendy scoffed, her lips curling in disdain. "That's a joke.Who was it parading his mistress around even before signing the divorce papers? Who's already planning another wedding? You've done all that.and you have the nerve to question who I'm with?"
"You!" Ethan was momentarily'speechless, unable to come up with a retort.
Seeing Ethan fall silent, Wendy had no desire to continue the argument. She turned to leave.
But as soon as she lifted her leg, a large hand grabbed her wrist tightly.
Ethan, losing his patience, yanked her, back forcefully, leaving red marks on her delicate skin.
Wendy clutched her aching wrist, glaring furiously at Ethan. "Ethan, what do you want?"
"I think we need to talk."
Ethan's gaze inadvertently fell on the swelling on Wendy's wrist, and a strange feeling stirred within him.
Wendy let out a cold laugh. "Sorry. I'm not interested. I don't want to talk."
Ethan was infuriated by her words. "If you keep this attitude, don't blame me for taking back the money and the villa."
"Go ahead and try," Wendy shrugged. "Sue me if you want. Don't forget.the Collins Group is part of our marital assets. If you want to go crazy, I'll see it through to the end."
Ethan was at a loss for words, his throat dry and painful, unable to say anything.
"Our divorce hearing is in a few days. Make sure you're there to receive the divorce decree."
Wendy didn't want to argue any longer. She threw outher final words and walked away.
This time, Ethan didn't stop her.
Watching Wendy's figure grow smaller in the distance, Ethan felt an inexplicable sadness.
Wendy stormed away from Ethan, her heart a mix of grievance and anger.making it hard to breathe.
She bit her lip, wanting to leave this upsetting place and visit Margaret at another hospital.
If it weren't for Margaret being familiar with the staff and patients at that hospital and not wanting to leave, Wendy would have transferred her to Blue Ridge Medical Center for closer care.
As Wendy reached the entrance of Blue Ridge Medical Center and raised her hand to hail a cab, she noticed a familiar car parked quietly in the corner.
It was Alexander's black Bentley.
Almost simultaneously, her phone chimed. She glanced down to see a message from Alexander: [Get in the car. I'll take you.]
Wendy hesitated, her fingers hovering over the sereen before she finally
typed a reply: [No,thanks. I'll take a cab.]
After sending the message,she sighed.
Alexander had been appearing frequently, protecting her and helping her solve problems. Their relationship was growing closer at a rapid pace.
Regardless of whether it was for Chris'sake or something else, she needed to maintain some distance from Alexander.
Alexander was too perfect, too gentle. She feared faling into another emotional whirlpool and repeating past mistakes.
Sitting in the car, Alexander watched Wendy at the hospital entrance.Seeing her reply, his brows furrowed, a rare flash of anger in his deep eyes.
He couldn't understand why Wendy always refused his kindness.
He sent another message: [Do you want me to drive up and invite you in front of everyone at the hospital?]
After sending the message, Alexander leaned back in his seat, watching Wendy through the window with a determined look. He didn't believe Wendy would ignore such a "threat."
Wendy's eyes widened at the new message, her face a mix of surprise and frustration.
She looked around at the doctors and patients passing by, feeling both amused and exasperated.
She hadn't expected the president of the Turner Group to be so childish.
As Wendy stood there, hesitating, her phone buzzed again. Another message from Alexander: |I'm not joking. You have three minutes.I
Wendy smiled wryly, silently cursing Alexander's stubbornness, but her feet moved towards the car.
She opened the door and sat in the back seat, her voice tinged with annoyance. "Mr. Turner, please take me to Sunrise General Hospital."
Alexander glanced at her through the rearview mirror, seeing her slightly puffed-up face, and his lips curved into a small smile.
He said nothing more, gently pressing the gas pedal, and the car smoothly drove off.
The ride was silent.
Wendy stared out the window, her thoughts drifting.
Alexander occasionally glanced at her through the mirror, noticing her furrowed brows. His own brows knitted in response, and he silently increased the speed.
Soon, they arrived at Sunrise General Hospital.
Wendy thanked him and quickly got out, heading straight for the inpatient department before Alexander could react.
Alexander hurriedly parked the car and caught up with her in a few strides. Just as he was about to enter the elevator with her, Wendy stopped him.
"Mr. Turner, it's not convenient for you to come up," Wendy said softly, her eyes downcast.
Alexander was momentarily taken aback, a hint of disappointment flashing across his face.
He raised an eyebrow and said, "Why not? The Turner family used to be your neighbors. It's reasonable for me to visit Mrs.Knight."
Ignoring Wendy's protest, he squeezed into the elevator.
Wendy sighed, resigned to letting him follow.
At the hospital room door, Wendy took a deep breath and pushed it open.
Seeing Margaret lying quietly on the bed, her face pale, Wendy's eyes reddened.
She walked to the bedside, gently holding Margaret's frail hand. "Grandma,I'm here to see you."
Margaret slowly opened her eyes, smiling weakly at Wendy. "Wendy, you're here. Don't worry, this old body is still strong."
Wendy forced a smile. "Grandma, I came to tell you some good news. I've started my internship at the hospital. I'll soon be a qualified doctor."
Hearing this, Margaret's face lit up with a pleased smile. "That's wonderful!Wendy, you'll be just like your parents and grandpa, the best doctor."
Then, as if remembering something, she added, "You must be working hard. You look thinner."
Wendy thought she was tough, but hearing Margaret's words made her nose tingle.
"It's not hard,Grandma."
Alexander, who had been silent in the corner, saw Wendy's slightly red eyes and his gaze deepened.
He walked to Margaret and asked softly, "Mrs. Knight,do you remember me? I'm Alexander."
