Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Leila, totally clueless about Chris's feelings, blurted out, "Chris, Amelia totally played you back then. You forgave her, and she didn't even care. The second she found someone else, she demanded a divorce. I've seen her getting cozy with other guys more than once. She probably cheated on you already. She's dragging your name and the Spencer family through the mud by still calling herself Mrs. Spencer."

"Shut up!" Chris snapped, his voice icy.

"Chris, you..." Leila was taken aback but tried to show her understanding,"I'm just upset for you. If it were me, I'd never betray you. I'd treasure this marriage."

"Would you?" Chris's face was unreadable.

Tears welled up in her eyes, making her look pitiful. "Chris, I love you so much! I have a long scar on my body from saving you, and I don't regret it. I'd do anything to marry you."

Chris suddenly sneered, "But four years ago, you made me promise to marry you in return for saving my life, and I agreed. Then youinsisted on going abroad and gave up that chance. Now, you'd better shut up, or you can get out of the country."

"I had my reasons back then, Chris. I saved you; you can't be so cruel to me!" Leila desperately tried to grab Chris's hand but was harshly pushed away.

His brown eyes were cold."It's true that you saved me. Otherwise, do you think you'd still be standing here talking to me?"

Sophia couldn't stand seeing Amelia always stressed about making money to pay off debts. So, on the weekend, she dragged Amelia out shopping to get some new clothes.

"Miss, we have all the latest styles," the sales assistant greeted them warmly.

Sophia tried on a few outfits but felt a bit disappointed. Noticing that Amelia sited the clothes better, she encouraged her to try on several more outfits while she waited outside.

"Miss, would you like to try our store's free manicure?" the sales assistant suggested, pointing inside. "To kill time."

Sophia looked at her nails, tempted but hesitant, "I'm afraid she'll come out before I'm done."

The sales assistant smiled even brighter. "Then ask her to get the nails done too. Our styles are better than some nail salons out there."

Sophía couldn't resist and followed the sales assistant inside.

"Remind her to come over when she's done trying on clothes," Sophia said.

The sales assistant agreed.

Meanwhile, Amelia had already vanished.

"Did she faint?" a woman asked urgently.

A man nodded, "Don't worry, I put three times the usual dose of sedative on that towel. She'll be out for a day!"

They quickly escorted Amelia through the mall's staff passage, moving so fast that no one noticed.

By the time Amelia woke up,it was already very late.

"Is anyone there?" She was alone, tied up on a sofa in an empty room, unable to free her hands or feet.

No response.

Most importantly, Amelia felt groggy, and all she could do was wait. After all, unless they planned to let her die here, the kidnappers would eventually show up.

Time passed slowly, and the room grew darker. The late autumn night was freezing. Amelia shivered from the cold.

Suddenly,footsteps approaiched. Someone was coming.

Amelia perked up, staring at the door.

The person unlocked the door with a key and walked in heavily.

At first glance, Amelia saw a tall, muscular figure with a masked face.

It was clear this was a powerful man, and now, men meant danger to her.

"Who are you?" Amelia tried to stay calm. "Who sent you here?"

"You woke up so quickly; it's truly surprising." The man sneered, stepping forward to touch Amelia's face, sighing regretfully, "Bitch, it's a pity that I can't sleep with you."

Amelia instinctively wanted to retreat but couldn't move, only able to watch as the man untied the rope behind her and lifted her up.

"Let's go." He looked at her with a mocking smile, "Aren't you afraid I'll rape you right here as you keep glaring at me?"

Of course, she was afraid, but what good would that do?

Amelia didn't say another word, racking her brain to figure out who had trapped her. Could it be one of Chris's enemies?

But in the vast upper-class circle of Pinecrest, everyone knewv she was just a neglected poor soul. If anyone wanted revenge on Chris, wouldn't they target his most important person? Or was it an enemy of her parents?

Amelia was nervous, but she had to adapt to the situation. Hopefully, things wouldn't get too bad.

The man roughly pushed her out, and then Amelia realized she was in a large, abandoned amusement park. The rides were weathered and broken, and she could almost see the past prosperity at a glance.

The room Amelia was held in was the ticket booth, but the windows were sealed with iron sheets, making it impossible to see outside.

"Go; what are you looking at? Do you want to run? No way!" The man glared at her coldly, pushing her towards a van parked not far away.

Amelia's hands were tied, and with the push, she lost her balance and fell to the ground, getting covered in dirt.

"Stop pretending. Get up; stop dawdling!!" The man cursed, yanking her up roughly.

"I can give you money!" Amelia gritted her teeth, forcing out the words. "I'Il get a million dollars for you. Just let me go, and I..."

"Shut up!" The man slapped her face and mocked,"Do you think I'mpoor and need your pocket change?"

"How much do you want? No matter how much, I can find a way!"Amelia was unwilling, sensing that once she was in that van, escaping would be nearly impossible. She had to think of a way to escape now.

"Or tell me what you want, and I can help you." Amelia was unusually calm, trying to think of aplan.

Who sent him to kidnap her, and what did the mastermind want? She had never made enemies, and the only ones who could be considered enemies were Chris and Leila.

"Do you have money? Are you going to sell yourself again? Selling yourself to get money for me; you're such a lowly woman! I don't know why Chris married you in the first place." The man was full of insults.

But Amelia caught the key points in his words.

"You know Chris; you're Leila's man?" She stared at the only exposed eyes under his mask, shouting, "Leila sent you to kidnap me. What does she want? You assisted her; eventually, you will be implicated."

She even felt that this person was Ace, Leila's most loyal helper.

"Shut your filthy mouth!" The man shouted.

"Ace, I know it's you," Amelia sneered,"I am telling you I'll get back at both of you, unless you have the guts to kill me!"

The man got enraged, raising his hand to slap her, but was stopped by someone getting out of the van. "What are you dawdling for? Hurry up!"
