"Do I have to choose?" Chris's voice wasn't loud, but it was clear enough for everyone to hear. "You might not get my methods; I hate being threatened. Let them go, and I'll let you live."
As he spoke, Chris raised his hand slightly, and yachts started closing in from all directions.
The roaring engines were deafening as they surrounded the not-so-large ship.
Amelia's eyes narrowed. His actions would definitely piss off the kidnappers, and they still had the hostages.
Sure, he might not care about her, but what about Leila?
"Mr. Spencer, maybe you shouldn't be so sure of yourself." The sudden actions left the kidnappers a bit rattled, and one of them grabbed Leila's hair.
Leila winced, her face twisted in pain, cursing inwardly, 'What kind of kidnappers did Ace find? Why aren't they grabbing Amelia's hair instead?'
"Chris, I'm so scared..." She looked at Chris with pitiful eyes.
The kidnapper smirked, "Isn't she your first love? Don't you feel sorry for her? I'll count to three. If you don't choose by then, say goodbye to both of them."
Chris's eyes were icy as he stared.
Under his intense, murderous gaze, the kidnapper, feeling like death was near, started the countdown anyway.
"Three!"
"Save me, Chris. I don't want to die here before marrying you." Even though Leila knew it was all an act, the kidnapper's performance was too convincing, and she screamed in fear.
In the pouring rain, Amelia's vision was already blurry.
She furrowed her brows slightly, but her expression remained calm, despite the panic of temporary blindness she concealed in her heart. Her hair clung to her face, her thin clothes looking particularly disheveled.
Several sharks circled below, ready to strike at any moment.
Amelia knew deep down, Chris would never choose her...
"Chris, do you remember the first time I saw you? You were pinned under a car, unable to move, and the car was about to explode. I struggled to save you, and my arm was deeply cut by the car window. But I didn't care. When you promised to marry me, I felt that even if I had scars for a lifetime,it would be worth it!" Leila wept as she recalled the past.
Chrís's deep eyes suddenly tightened, remembering the gentle encouragement that had kept him going through the accident when he was unconscious.
This was what he owed Leila.
Chris lowered his gaze and looked at Amelia. She closed her eyes.adopting an indifferent demeanor, which ignited a surge of anger within him.
This woman's scheme was so clumsy, was she treating him like a fool?
"Mr. Spencer, it has been verified that it was indeed the kidnappers contacted by Mrs. Spencer," his assistant whispered.
Chris sneered. Just a moment ago, he had some doubts, but now he was certain.
This despicable woman, Amelia, in her bid to secure Mrs. Spencer's position, had resorted to staging a kidnapping.
A sinister thought suddenly crossed his mind. If Amelia's plan failed, would she just obediently stay at home as she used to?
As the kidnapper counted down to the last second, he coldly said, "Mr.Spencer, are you so heartless as to not choose anyone? Then both of these people will die."
The kidnapper smirked and approached the stern as he picked up a knife, about to cut the rope.
The sharks in the water also seemed eager, as if they might lunge at any moment.
Chris's eyes turned cold. "I choose her."
The kidnapper asked, "Who is she, your wife or your lover?"
Up to this point, Amelia stayed silent. She couldn't see a thing, waiting for her fate with a mix of sorrow and calmness. It didn't matter.Maybe after today, she'd finally be free.
Chris clenched his teeth, a murderous glint in his eyes. "Leila, let her go first!"
"Did you hear that? Let me go" Leila shouted, her tone shifting. She
looked ecstatically at the silent Amelia beside her, trembling with excitement.
"Amelia, you're no match for me at all. Chris chose me!" Leila was over the moon. The pain she had just endured seemed to vanish.
"I knew." Amelia finally spoke, with a bitter smile and a numb tone.
This whole thing was a joke. So, should she, this poor and pitiful tool, just exit the stage?
She slowly raised her head, her blurred vision still able to make out the figure on the yacht, tall and upright. The man she had loved for over a decade had chosen another woman, abandoning her. Even though she had already made her peace, the pain was still overwhelming.
This was for the best because they were now completely clear between them. The boy who once smiled so radiantly had saved her life once. She would now return the favor by giving her life for his...
But in that instant, a gunshot rang out.
Everyone shuddered, trying to find who had been shot.
It was then discovered that a rope on one side had been pierced, and Amelia's frail body fell, instantly engulfed in the deep bluesea.
"Amelia!"
In the distance, a roar seemed to be heard.
But Amelia could no longer hear anything. Her ears were filled with seawater, the icy cold ocean enveloping her, tearing at her and pounding her. With a violent surge of waves, she was thrown into deeper waters.
A severe sense of suffocation took over as she struggled frantically, but it was futile. In extreme pain, the whole world suddenly became heavy and quiet.
On the yacht, Chris's eyes tightened. The figure falling into the sea seemed to shake his heart, causing panic.
Without hesitation, he took off his coat and leaped into the sea.
"Mr. Spencer!" His subordinates were shocked.
Even Lucius, who had been silently watching from a distance, squinted in surprise.
"It seems Mr. Spencer's love for Amelia is genuine, to risk his life to save her," his assistant remarked meaningfully.
Lucius sighed heavily. "Yes, I never expected that."
But what ability did that Amelia possess to make Chris act so recklessly?
"You must dispatch more personnel to ensure her rescue before Chris locates Amelia," he deliberated for a moment before giving the order.
The assistant nodded, "Mr. Howard, rest assured, I already have lifeguards on standby."
The sea winds and waves grew stronger.
The moment Chris plunged into the sea, the frigid and salty water stung his eyes, making it impossible to keep them open. Struggling as he descended,he realized he couldn't see any trace of Amelia. He repeatedly dived into the sea, tirelessly searching, then surfaced for air.
His men began a large-scale search of the area, but Amelia was nowhere to
be found.
After Chris's legs went numb and his strength depleted, his panic grew as he stared out at the endless ocean.
Damn it, wasn't it Amelia, the foolish woman who planned this kidnapping? Why would she take such a risk herself?
"Mr. Spencer, a storm is brewing. We can't stay here any longer!" His assistant shouted, throwing down a lifebuoy and a rope that he could grab with his hand.
But all Chris could think about was that stubborn figure. Without a second thought, he dove into the sea once more.
