Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Amelia's head pounded like a drum, and her whole body felt like it was on fire. She could hear some voices, but they were all muffled.

She slowly opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw were the blinding white walls. The smell of disinfectant hit her nose. Was she in heaven?

"You're awake?" Lucius asked softly. "How are you feeling?"

Amelia blinked, confused. "Why are you here?"

Lucius didn't answer. Instead, he called the doctor to check on her.

After the doctor said she needed to stay in the hospital for observation,

Lucius sighed. "My guys found you and brought you here."

Amelia looked down. She thought she was a goner, but here she was, alive.

"You're pregnant," Lucius said out of nowhere.

Amelia's eyes went wide. "What? How is that even possible?"

Lucius kept his gentle smile. "Why not? It's only been a little over a month.

You probably didn't notice. After everything you've been through,it's a miracle the baby is okay."

Amelia's mind went blank. She'd only slept with Chris once. Could she be pregnant from just that one time?

"Think about it," Lueius said, seeing her struggle to process it. "If you need anything, just let me know."

He glanced at her right arm, where a faint scar was visible. "BTW, can you tell me how you got that scar?"

Amelia, still dazed, replied, "When I was a teenager, I got it saving someone."

"Be more specific," Lucius pressed.

"Two people were kidnapped. The kidnappers were going to kill them and crash the car to make it look like an accident. I happened to pass by and saved them," she explained.

"How did you save them?" Lucius asked, his voice low.

"I remember I first saved the boy who was unconscious, dragged him to a hidden tree, and then went back to save the other person, but I got burned in the process. That's how I got the scar."

It had been so long, she couldn't remember clearly. She had an appointment at the time and didn't see the faces of the people she saved. She left quickly when the ambulance arrived.

She didn't notice the change in Lucius's expression. "What's wrong?" she asked, sensing his unusual interest.

"Nothing," Lucius said, standing up to leave.

Amelia clutched the sheet."Wait."

Lucius turned back to her.

"Why are you helping me?" she asked.

Lucius's gaze darkened, his eyes filled with complexity. "Maybe it's fate,"he said heavily.

Amelia's mind was a mess. Lucius and Chris had always been at odds. He saved her, so he must have a reason.

But he did save her life.

He'd been the kindest to her during this whole ordeal.

But now, what should she do?

She was pregnant, the baby just a month old, yet incredibly resilient.Despite the accident, it had survived.

Amelia instinctively touched her belly,'tears falling.

This was Chris's child, growing inside her. He definitely wouldn't want it.But it was also her child. That thought touched her heart.

She wanted to keep this baby, even if it meant pissing off Chris. She wanted to show this little one the world.

With her mind made up, the next time Lucius visited, Amelia made a request. "Mr. Howard, I know I don't have the right to ask for anything, but I need your help to get out of here. Once I safely deliver the baby and get settled, I'll be at your service whenever you need me."

For the first time, there was a spark in her eyes.

Lucius looked at her quietly, surprised she had made up her mind so quickly.

She seemed different now, no longer the weak and pitiful girl she had been."Are you sure?" Lucius's lips curved slightly.

Amelia nodded, her gaze steady. "I want to keep this baby.I'll take good care of him."

"Alright, as you wish," He smiled faintly.

Outside the room, Lucius told his assistant, "Check if Amelia was in that small town after Chris and I were kidnapped years ago."

Eleven years ago, he was in his twenties, full of youthful arrogance, while Chris, at sixteen, was already showing signs of rebellion. They didn't get along well, so they decided to settle it with a race, but ended up getting kidnapped. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of two hundred million dollars and drugged them, taking them to a remote town. Then they were rescued and taken by an ambulance.

Lucius remembered someone saving them, but the family had covered it up. He figured the family must have rewarded the people who saved them with a huge amount of money.

And over the years, he had been too busy to think about it.

Hospital days dragged on. Amelia hadn't had such a simple life in a long time.

If it were before, she would have longed for these carefree days. But now,she felt lost.

Once she recovered, she planned to leave the city, end all the painful disputes, settle her father, and find a new place to start over. Thinking about it, the future seemed worth looking forward to.

But this peace only lasted a week.

One day, Lucius came to the hospital with shocking news.

"Yes, you heard right. Chris is hospitalized, still in a coma," Lucius repeated.

Amelia stood there, her back stiff. "How could this be? He was fine;how could he be hospitalized?"

Hearing about Chris, she felt conflicted. She didn't want to care, but she couldn't help it.

"I need to tell you the truth, then you can reconsider leaving." Lucius hesitated, then took out his phone and showed her a photo.

Amelia's hands trembled as she took it.

The person lying motionless in the photo was Chris, his eyes closed, face pale, lips bloodless. Her heart ached inexplicably.

Amelia found it hard to believe.

Could it be that Chris, always so strong and invincible, would be so helpless, lying unconscious in a hospital bed?

"What happened to him?" Her throat was dry, her voice hoarse.

Lucius adjusted his glasses and sighed, "That day, afteryou fell into the sea,he jumped in without hesitation, diving again and again to find you.Eventually, he was swept into the open sea by the waves and attacked by a shark... Amelia, he was seriously injured."
