Shawn was slightly stunned.
Seeing her clear but distant eyes, he suddenly remembered how she always aimed to be the best at everything back in school.
She was so tough and full of life.
And she had this totally free spirit.
That's why he couldn't forget her all these years.
"It's nothing," Shawn shrugged with a casual smile. "After being overshadowed by you for so long, I had to grab this chance to help you, especially to stick it to that annoying guy Chris."
Hearing this, Amelia frowned.
She remembered what she saw not long ago.
He was all cozy with Leila, so why was he acting like he cared so much about her now?
Was he just trying to look like a devoted lóver for his own gain?
Amelia's heart ached, like someone was cutting it with a dull knife.
"Will it get you in trouble?" She forced a smile, trying to seem relaxed.
Shawn waved it off, "Nah, I'm like a ghost. I'll go over there and pretend to search you, then no one will suspect me. Just focus on getting better and don't worry about anything else."
Amelia nodded firmly.
There was Lucius, and then there was Shawn.
She would definitely remember the two of them, and if they ever needed her help, she'd give it her all.
The folks by the river had been at it for a whole day and night, and they'd almost caught all the fish in the river.
Chris still wasn't giving up.
"Chris, what are you trying to do? It's been over a day. Even if you find her,it won't matter!" Victor's voice was hoarse and pained.
"Yeah, Chris, your leg is bleeding. Are you trying to kill yourself? Come back with us!"
The other Spencer family members were there too, but no one could stop the crazed Chris.
He was terrifying, waiting there for so long without a word, like a trapped beast that wouldn't stop until it got what it wanted.
"Please, Chris, you've been up for a day and a night without rest or food.
You might collapse." Leila cried, her voice especially hoarse.
Hearing this, Chris suddenly looked at her, grabbed her collar fiercely, and asked through gritted teeth, "Was it you?"
He was completely panicked.
"No,how could it be me? I was filming on set yesterday. How could I have time to hurt her?" Leila's face went pale with fear, backing away but unable to move.
"It better not be you." Chris's voice was as cold as Arctc ice, sending chills
down everyone's spine.
After saying that, he casually tossed Leila aside and shouted, "Keep searching!"
"Now you regret it? What were you doing earlier?" Shawn taunted,"Amelia's gone, and now you're putting on a show. Anyone who doesn't know might think you're devoted to her. Look at our Mr. Spencer,so considerate and good, right?"
"Shawn, you're asking for trouble!" Chris turned around, locking eyes with Shawn.
Their eyes locked, and Shawn could see the contempt in Chris's eyes.
"You took her away, Shawn. You must have a death wish," Chris growled, sounding like a mnadman.
Shawn just sneered, "Mr. Spencer, looks like you've really lost it. If I took her,why am I here?" He was fuming too. "If I knew this would happen,I would've made her divorce you, you idiot. This is all your fault!"
Chris didn't respond with words. He threw a punch.
Shawn didn't back down, and they quickly started brawling.
"Stop!" Victor was so mad his blood pressure nearly spiked. He turned to the people around him, "Why are you standing idle? Break it up!"
The two were quickly pulled apart.
By then, Shawn was already beaten black and blue. He was no match for Chris.
But Chris wasn't doing much better. His body had deteriorated over the
days, and blood was seeping from his wounds, staining his clothes red.
"What's the point of denying it? The facts are right here. You can't even take care of your wife, always putting her in danger. She's quite unlucky to have met you..."
"Say that again!" Chris's body radiated a terrifying killing intent.
"I'll say it a hundred times if I have to. Anyone who gets close to you is unlucky. You're a jinx!" Shawn seemed to have a death wish, continuously provoking him.
"Shut up!" A gentle yet angry male voice cut through the tension,"Get out immediately."
It was Lucius.
"Lucius, please talk some sense into Chris. He's gone mad!" Victor seemed to see hope and hurriedly stepped forward to hold Lucius's hand.
"Dad, don't worry. I brought some good swimmers. They'll help." Lu1cius held Victor's wrist, his voice steady.
"Lucius, I know you are aware of her situation." Chris suddenly turned around, his sharp gaze fixed on Lucius.
A flash of anger crossed Lucius's eyes, "It has nothing to do with me.I'm here to help you."
He signaled to his assistant, "Get the doctor to treat him."
"Get lost, all of you!" Chris growled at Lucius's people, "Lucius, don't let me catch you."
"Take him away." Lucius waved his hand, and the bodyguards he brought
swarmed forward, pinning Chris to the ground, making him unable to move.
His wound split open again, and his body was extremely fragile.
If it weren't for Lucius, no one would dare to touch him.
"Lucius, if I find out you caused the accidJent..."
"Chris, stop talking nonsense. We've already investigated. It was an accident. The driver confessed, admitting it was his mishandling that caused it. How can you blame others?" Victor's voice was filled with sorrow and anger.
Chris was forcibly lifted onto a stretcher and taken to the ambulance.
"Dad, he just can't accept the truth. Let's go back." Lucius sighed, somewhat helplessly.
Victor silently gazed at the shimmering river reflecting the lights, a sigh escaping his lips.
That night, Amelia saw the news about her accident.
She also learned more about Chris's strange behavior after her accident.
