Amelia took a deep breath, trying to push away the scary memories in her head.
"That's good," she whispered.
She was super bored in the hospital, so by the third day, when she could finally get out of bed, she asked someone to bring her painting supplies and started painting in her room.
That afternoon, an unexpected visitor showed up.
Amelia had gone to the bathroom to wash her brushes. When she came back, she saw a very familiar figure standing outside the slightly open door.
It was Paxton, her dad, the only person who truly cared about her.
Amelia froze, her nose tingling with emotion, and for a moment, she didn't know what to do. Would he want to acknowledge her?
But Paxton just stood there quietly with no intention to come inside, his eyes full of love.
Amelia got it. Maybe he knew it wasn't the right time for her to acknowledge him.
She took a deep breath and calmly went back to her painting, moving the canvas a bit closer to the door so he could see more.
The silent understanding between father and daughter was at its peak. They didn't say a word, just stayed together for over ten minutes until an untimely voice broke the silence.
"Mr. Tudor, why don't you go in?" It was Chris.
That damn guy was here again.
Amelia pretended she had just noticed and looked towards the door.
Paxton turned away to avoid her gaze.
Outside the door, he waved at Chris and lowered his voice, "Don't disturb Ms. White, I'm leaving now."
"Mr. Tudor," Chris grabbed his arm, "Did you see clearly who she really is?
Paxton's eyes paused, a trace of sadness flashed in his eyes, and he sighed,"I once hoped that Amelia hadn't died, but Mr. Spencer, anyone with eyes can see this Ms. White is way better than Amelia. Amelia has been dead for four years, and we should accept it."
His voice was hoarse, and his whole body exuded a sense of sorrow.
Chris had no reason to stop him, watching him leave, his steps faltering.
"Is he Mr. Spencer's ex-wife's father?" Amelia finally came out, leaning against the wall, "Have you taken care of him? With your capabilities, making sure he lives well is just a matter of words."
Chris thought for a moment, then looked up at her, "You're testing me."
"Think whatever you want," she turned and went back into the room, the wound on her back seemed to have opened up, and the bloodstains were particularly noticeable.
Chris saw this and his breath caught, instinctively becoming nervous, and couldn't help but shout, "Stop!"
Amelia was puzzled and turned to look at him. "What, Mr. Spencer, are you going to have a debate with me,who is injured?"
"Your wound has opened up, sit down immediately, don't move," he helped her to the sofa, "let the nurse change your dressing."
He seemed deeply worried about her.
"No need," Amelia stopped him, "the nurse just changed the dressing around half an hour ago, I might have accidentally pulled it, it's not a big deal."
Chris stopped, turned his head, "So, you'd rather not trouble others and endure the pain yourself, are you insane?"
Amelia rolled her eyes. His words were extremely harsh.
After a while, the nurse came in, saw the blood on her back, and hurriedly said, "Ms. White, let me change your dressing again."
Amelia didn't refuse. She sat there, back to the nurse, lifting her shirt, revealing her slender waist.
Her waist had been deliberately trained, thinner than before but well-proportioned, with tight skin and more strength.
She suddenly felt a burning gaze on her and realized Chris was still there.
"Mr. Spencer, please leave," she said sternly.
Chris's eyes darkened as he looked at her waist for a moment, but unusually, he didn't argue and silently walked out.
And the scene just now lingered in his mind.
He had been with Amelia before, touching every inch of her skin, including her waist.
Back then, she was delicate and soft, her slender waist seemingly boneless, particularly smooth.
But just now, he could see a noticeable change.
Her waist was thinner, more attractive, and more vibrant. He couldn't help but have wild thoughts.
After the nurse finished changing the dressing, he walked back in.
Suddenly,he noticed the wallpaper on Amelia's phone when it lit up with the sound of an incoming message. Then Chris grew suspicious when
Amelia quickly turned her head towards him upon seeing his eyes focused on her wallpaper.
Chris was faster than her, quickly grabbing her phone and looking at the photo closely before the screen went dark.
Amelia with two children, a boy and a girl, smiling happily.
Those two kids...
"Why did you snatch my phone?" Amnelia walked over, frowning, "Give it back to me."
"Who are the the kids in the photo?" Chris questioned.
Amelia's expression didn't change, "They are my friend's children, Boy-Girl Twins. I have a good relationship with them. They are five years old.I think they are cute, so I use the photo as my wallpaper. Is that not allowed?"
Damn, how did she forget to change it back?
Chris looked at her suspiciously. "Ms. White, don't lie."
His presence was particularly intimidating, making people instinctively fearful.
While Amelia smiled faintly, "Why would I lie? What do you have that's worth lying about?"
Chris was silent for a moment, then left.
Amelia's heart, which had been hanging, finally relaxed.
She picked up her phone, looking at the children on the screen, her heart instantly softening.
That night, Lucius came over.
"Your father publicly clarified for you, look at this video," he handed her the phone, the screen playing a video.
"I am Amelia's father. My daughter died in a car accident four years ago.I do not know this Ms. White. Please treat this matter rationally and do not harm innocent people..."
The video was only a few seconds long. In the video, Paxton wore dark clothes, facing the camera, exuding a solemn aura that made people believe him.
Amelia stared at the video of Paxton for a long time, her eyes turning wet.
"He's afraid I'll be attacked," she choked up slightly, "Mr.Howard, did he recognize me?"
Lucius pursed his lips, holding her hand, "Perhaps."
Amelia stiffened, instinctively pulling her hand back.
They had never done such an intimate gesture when alone.
Did he forget that this was a hospital room, and there was no one else here?
"Sorry," a trace of darkness flashed in Lucius's eyes, "I forgot."
Her instinctive reaction had already exposed her inner thoughts. Perhaps he was too hasty.
"How are Owen and Olivia these days? Have they been asking for their mom?" Lucius paused, then suddenly asked.
Amelia was stunned for a moment, got up to close the door, and then said."I haven't contacted them for several days. They might have forgotten about me."
"Impossible." Lucius smiled, "Why don't you video call them now,let me see them too."
