Milo shrugged, a hint of resignation flashing in his eyes.
"Hard work can't compete with being born lucky. These days, luck matters more than education when it comes to getting rich."
He thought of Ethan Roscente's example. Without that stroke of luck, even with all his talent, Ethan would never have become the head of HM Group.
Jenna chuckled and patted her brother's shoulder.
"You're right. But luck alone isn't enough to keep you standing. You need both luck and skill."
Milo dodged her hand, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Don't worry, sis. I won't let you down."
"Good." Jenna blinked. "Our future mansion depends on you."
Just then, Nanny Florence ushered in Tony Lombardi and his wife Wendy.
The siblings quickly stood to greet them.
Tony beamed, none of his usual sharpness present.
"Wendy, this is Jenna Roland, the sister I just adopted. And this is her brother Milo."
Wendy studied Jenna with gentle eyes.
"Hello, I'm Wendy Lombardi, Tony's wife. You can call me sis."
Jenna was surprised. She'd expected disdain given her background.
Instead, Wendy seemed genuinely warm, even eager to bridge the gap.
"Hello, sis." Jenna gave a slight bow.
Wendy's gaze shifted to Milo, admiration flickering in her eyes.
"You two are so good-looking. Your parents must be stunning."
"They're alright." Jenna said modestly.
Wendy waved a hand. "Let's not stand on ceremony."
She turned to Nanny Florence. "Go prepare lunch."
The nanny nodded and withdrew.
Wendy smiled apologetically. "I wanted to cook myself, but I'm not feeling well today. I'll make it up to you next time."
"Don't trouble yourself, sis. Health comes first." Jenna said considerately.
Suddenly, she suggested, "How about I cook instead?"
Wendy raised an eyebrow. "You can cook?"
Milo interjected proudly, "My sister's an amazing cook."
"Then we're in for a treat today." Wendy rose with a smile. "Let me show you the kitchen."
Jenna quickly protested, "You should rest. I can find my way."
"It's just a few steps." Wendy insisted, leading the way.
The two women disappeared into the kitchen.
Watching them go, Tony's heart suddenly leaped into his throat.
......
In the kitchen, Wendy instructed Nanny Florence, "Let Jenna take charge. You assist her."
The nanny bowed respectfully.
Wendy added, "Tell her what dishes to make."
With everything arranged, Jenna picked up a chef's knife and began expertly handling the ingredients.
