Chapter 44: Chapter 45

Alexander suddenly recalled receiving a call from Amy during Victoria's car accident. The situation had been too urgent to answer, so he'd dismissed the call without a second thought.

Now with a clearer mind, he reached for his phone to return her call. The line rang endlessly, each tone stretching his patience thinner. When the voicemail finally clicked on, his jaw tightened visibly.

Three more attempts yielded the same frustrating result. Was this her petty revenge for his earlier dismissal? Nathan's words echoed in his mind - "Never let a woman think she can manipulate you with silence."

Across the hospital, Amy's phone vibrated uselessly on her nightstand. Exhausted from the accident, she slept through the persistent buzzing, her chest rising and falling in steady rhythm.

Morning light revealed the missed calls when she finally awoke. A knowing smirk played on her lips as she set the device aside without returning the calls.

The knock came precisely thirty minutes later. Two uniformed officers entered, clipboards in hand. "Ms. Sinclair, we need your statement about yesterday's collision."

Amy recounted the events with clinical precision. "I was executing a legal turn when the other vehicle appeared suddenly, showing no signs of slowing."

The lead officer exchanged glances with his partner before asking, "You're certain the other driver was at fault? Their version contradicts yours significantly."

Ice crept into Amy's veins at the implication. "Are you suggesting they're denying responsibility?"

"In remote areas without surveillance footage, these cases become complicated," the officer admitted. "We're gathering evidence from both parties before determining fault."

"Is the other driver hospitalized here?" Amy's fingers tightened around her blanket.

"Yes, this is the nearest medical facility to the accident site," the officer confirmed. "They're claiming you caused the collision. We'll notify you of any developments in our investigation."

"Thank you for your time," Amy said with practiced politeness.

As the door clicked shut behind them, Amy's mind raced. This was no coincidence. Of all people to collide with - Victoria Langley. Was this some twisted test of Alexander's loyalties?

In another wing of the hospital, Gregory delivered his report in hushed tones. "The traffic division says the other party refuses to accept blame. They're insisting Ms. Langley caused the accident. Without surveillance from that deserted road, the investigation could drag on indefinitely..."

Victoria's tear-filled eyes darted between the men as she cradled her bandaged hand. "That car came out of nowhere like a bullet! They must have been drunk or worse - trying to kill me!" Her voice broke. "I just wanted one last concert before... Now I might never play again..."

Alexander's expression remained unreadable. "I've assembled the best specialists for your recovery. Focus on healing - I'll handle everything else."

"But what if they've already tampered with evidence?" Victoria's tears spilled over. "Without camera footage, how will we ever prove the truth? This could disappear like it never happened..."
