Chapter 19: Chapter 19

"He signed the surgery consent form and the critical condition notice. He knows about your illness."

"Susan, can you help me make a fake medical report to hide it from him?"Wendy's voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible. lfkely from being unconscious for so long, but Susan understood her perfectly.

Susan frowned deeply, her eyes filled with pain and confusion. "If you love him so much, why don't you just tell him about your illness and explain everything?"

Wendy's eyes were hollow and filled with despair as she slowly replied, "I don't need his pity."

Susan's tone softened, laced with frustration and concern. "Don't you want him to care about you,to feel sorry for you?"

Wendy shook her head slightly, suppressing the endless bitterness in her heart.

How could Ethan ever feel sorry for her?

In her mind, if he knew she was dying, he would probably just feel relieved.

And even if he did feel sorry, it would only be out of pity, and she, Wendy.never needed such cheap sympathy.

Wendy insisted that Susan help her create a fake diagnosis, telling Ethan that the previous diagnosis was a mistake due to a high fever and that she did not have liver cancer.

Susan struggled Internally, looking at Wendy's haggard face and pleading eyes. In the end, she went against her conscience and agreed.

Not long after, the nurse called out to Ethan, who had just returned from the restroom. "Mr. Collins, here are your wife's medical test results."

Ethan's hand paused for a moment before he reachedout to take the papers.

He flipped through a couple of pages and then stopped abruptly, staring at the section that read "stomach bleeding" and nothing else.

The nurse watched his facial expressions carefully, noticing his eyes fixated on the "stomach bleeding" section. She suddenly felt an urge to flee.

"Wasn't she diagnosed with liver cancer? Why isn't it on here?"

The nurse forced an awkward smile and explained, "Your wife doesn't actually have liver cancer."

"She doesn't håve liver cancer? It was a misdiagnosis? She said she was dying just to deceive me!" Ethan's face darkened instantly, his deep eyes filled with a blood-red fury.

Facing Ethan's questioning, the nurse felt like she was being stared down by a ferocious beast. Her legs felt weak, and she nodded fearfully.

Just as she was about to make a quick escape, she remembered Wendy's pallid, lifeless face.

Comparing it to Ethan's fierce, almost predatory stare, she couldn't help but offer a reminder. "But at the time, her condition was really dangerous.Otherwise, we wouldn't have had you sign the critleal condition notice."

Ethan didn't hear a word of her reminder. His mind was consumed with the thought that Wendy and Susan had conspired to deceive him,and she never had liver cancer.

The test report crumpled in his hand as he clenched it tightly.

He kicked open the hospital room door and stormed in.

Wendy looked at Ethan's furious expression, and before she could react,Ethan was already in front of her, slapping her hard twice.

The sharp sound of the slaps echoed in the silent room, and Wendy felt a sharp pain on her face, tears streaming down instantly.

Ethan glared at Wendy, shouting, "Why did you lie to me? Did you think this would make me love you? What a joke! Look at yourself, how can you compare to Lydia?"

Wendy covered her swollen face, her eyes filled with despair and sadness.

Ethan then threw the crumpled test report at Wendy's hand.

The force dislodged the needle in her hand, causing the IV fluid to spill, staining the bandaged area with blood.

Wendy seemed to feel no pain. She opened her eyes, which had regained their calm.

She looked at Ethan, her voice hoarse and trembling, "Since I'm nothing compared to Lydia, let's get a divorce."

This marriage should have ended long ago.

Ethan's pupils contracted sharply. "What did you say?"

Wendy looked up at him, her tone extremely calm, "I said, let's get a divorce. I'll let you be with your mistress."

Ethan's breath hitched.

He suddenly felt that Wendy had become a complete stranger, and this feeling made his heart race with fear.

"Impossible!" Ethan gritted his teeth and spat out the words, "Don't think you can take my money and run off with your lover!"

His money? Wendy closed her eyes, a mocking smile forming on her lips.

So he was only afraid she'd take his money, and that's why he didn't want a divorce.

At this point, what was she still hoping for?

A dull pain filled Wendy's chest. She lowered her head to hide the sadness in her eyes. When she opened them again, they were calm.

She looked at Ethan and said softly, "I only need two million dollars for my grandmother's medical treatment. I don't want anything else."

Ethan was stunned.

He stared at Wendy, momentarily forgetting to respond.

He hadn't expected Wendy to ask for so little.

After all, the Collins Group was established after he married Wendy.

If Wendy filed for divorce in court, she could easily get hundredIs of millions of dollars.

But she only wanted two million.

Ethan stared at Wendy, as if trying to see through her soul, but he saw nothing.

Ethan suddenly thought Wendy must be crazy.

Otherwise, why would she give up such a fortune?

This was hundreds of millions of dollars! Enough to live a life of luxury, yet she only wanted two million.

Seeing Ethan's silence, Wendy sighed and said, "If you don't agree now,I might change my mind and reconsider."

Ethan, suddenly feeling a sense of urgency, interrupted her, "Fine, I agree."

Whatever game Wendy was trying to play, signing the agreement wouldn't hurt him. Better to secure the deal now than risk her backing out later.

Wendy's pale smile appeared, "Then please give me my phone back. I'll call my lawyer to bring the divorce papers. We can sign them today."

Ethan frowned, glaring at Wendy with anger, "Are you that eager to cut ties with me?"

Wendy nodded slightly, her tone calm but with a stubborn determination, "Yes."

Ethan stared at Wendy for a while, finally giving in. He handed her the phone, grumbling. "Fine. But you better not try any tricks, or I won't let you off."

Wendy took the phone and dialed Henry's number.

Ethan sat back on the bed, watching Wendy, his eyes filled with dark.unreadable emotions.
