Chapter 29: Chapter 29

On Monday. Wendy arrived at Blue Ridge Medical Center right on time.

Harold hadn't been feeling well lately, so he wasn't at the hospital to see patients.

He had asked one of his other students and assistants, Ivy Kate, to help get Wendy settled in.

Ivy wasn't particularly skilled in medicine, just competent enough to be considered professional, but she was diligent, eager to learn, and very thorough in her work. Harold had a soft spot for this student.

Ivy had an average appearance but was pleasant to look at, with clear skin and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses that gave her a scholarly and polite demeanor.

When she saw Wendy, she extended her hand with a friendly smile, "You must be Wendy? Professor Taylor talks about you often. It's great to finally meet you. I'm Ivy."

Wendy smiled back and shook her hand, "Nice to meet you, Ivy. It's an honor."

After the handshake, Ivy led Wendy on a tour of the various departments.

Ivy was very familiar with every part of Blue Ridge Medical Center, explaining things to Wendy as they walked.

She brought Wendy to the second internal medicine department and pointed to an office, "You'll be interning here for the next three months."

Wendy noddded,"Got it."

Ivy then took her to the nurses' station, where the nurses on duty were incredibly busy.

White-clad figures moved in and out, bustling between patient rooms and treatment areas.

There were no supervising doctors in sight in the doctors' office.

Ivy approached the nurses' station and called out to a nurse on duty,"Wren, this is the new intern. Let Dr. Chaseknow when you see him."

"Got it," Wren Kelly replied without looking up, busy with a pile of new orders, lab results, and blood transfusion forms.

Before leaving, Ivy reminded Wendy, "You're still in the internship phase,so the tasks won't be too difficult. Just work hard and don't stress."

Wendy smiled and replied, "I understand. Thank you."

"Alright, you can start working on your own now. When Dr. Chase arrives, report to him and let him set your schedule. I have to get back to work,"Ivy said with a smile before turning to leave.

"Okay," Wendy nodded, watching Ivy's figure disappear, unsure of what to do next.

She glanced cautiously at Wren, who was busy behind the nurses' station.

Although Wenddy had been reviewing her old knowledge diligently over the past few days and had a good memory, recalling most of the professional information, theory and practice were two different tings. She felt completely lost when it came to actual procedures.

Wren was sorting through the forms with one hand while holding the

phone with the other. "We need to add two CT scans at 1:30 PM."

Seeing how busy Wren was, Wendy hesítated before taking a step forward and timidly called out, "Wren."

After hanging up the phone, Wren looked up at her. "What is it?"

Wendy blinked and mustered the courage to ask. "What should I do?"

Wren finally remembered the new intern and quickly said. "Take these forms to the CT room for pricing, then go to the inpatient billing office to get them recorded and bring them back."

"Okay," Wendy took the forms, which included a small billing slip for the CT scans and a few other patients' test forms.

She scratched her head, silently repeating to herself."Imaging department for pricing, inpatient billing office for recording..."

On her first day, she wasn't familiar with the work environment, so she decided to use this as an opportunity to get to know the hospital better.

She quickly stacked the forms neatly, and seeing the crowded elevator, she opted to take the stairs.

The inpatient building at Blue Ridge Medical Center was a newly constructed eighteen-story tower.

The ground floor housed the registration, billing, pharmacy, and lab departments, among other service windows.

Each small glass window had long lines of people, creating a packed and bustling scene in the lobby.

Staff members hurried through the hallways, and outpatients looked for

directions on the signs.

The imaging and emergency buildings flanked the inpatient tower.each a separate structure.

A small plaza lay in the center of the three buildings.

Wendy navigated through the crowded lobby, crossed the plaza, and reached the imaging building, following the signs to the CT room.

There was a long line at the CT room window, so she joined the queue.

When it was finally her turn, she heard a sharp sound as the forms were thrown back at her, accompanied by a harsh female voice. "Next time.organize these properly. If theyget lost.who's responsible?"

Wendy felt a bit wronged but didn't dare to speak up.

She straightened the forms and ran back to the inpatient billing office to queue again.

When she reached the window, the forms were thrown back at her once more.

"How can we bill without pricing the contrast agent? Go fix it!"

What? Wendy quickly checked the forms and found that the CT room clerk had missed a small slip.

She hurried back to the CT room, peeking around the window, but the clerk didn't look up and shouted, "Get in line."

She was sent to the back of the line again.

After waiting, she finally reached the window again, "Um, you missed a

slip earlier."

"Don't you know the rules? If you're afraid of missing something, organize it yourself!" The clerk's tone was as sharp as a machine gun. She quickly wrote a number and threw the forms back at Wendy.

Wendy's face turned red from running. She glanced at the window, feeling a bit resentful. It was clearly the clerk's mistake. yet she was so self-righteous.

But she knew she lacked experience and made a mental note to remember this for next time.

Suddenly, a man called out to Wendy from behind, picking up a small slip she had accidentally dropped and handing it to her.

Wendy's eyes widened in surprise. It was Michael.
