Today, he wore a blue casual shirt under his white lab coat. His nose was prominent, lips thín, and a faint smile played at the corners of his mouth.
Michael had heard from Linda that Wendy would be interning at Blue Ridge Medical Center and had been looking forward to it for a while.
She was momentarily stunned before she reacted, "You work here?"
Michael nodded with a smile, took the stack of forms from her hand.flipped through them, pulled out a few, clipped them together.and handed them back to her.
"Don't worry, it's normal to feel overwhelmed at the start of an internship. The busier you are, the easier it is to make mistakes. Just follow the order, and you won't miss anything."
Wendy looked down at the neatly organized forms and said gratefully,"Thank you so much for your help!"
Michael waved it off with a smile, "No problem. You better get going before you get scolded."
"Okay." Wendy forced a smile and hurried off to the inpatient billing office with the forms.
'It's okay. Almost there, no needI to rush,' Wendy reassured herself.
She navigated through the crowded inpatient hall, heading straight for the billing office, and then patiently waited in the long line.
By the time shereturned to the second internal medicine department with the stack of forms, more than an hour had passed.
Wren looked impatient and complained. "It took you over an hour to get a CT form? What were you doing?"
She flipped through the forms.growing angrier. "Why didn't you log the ultrasound? Are you even thinking? If the ultrasound isn't done this afternoon, tomorrow's surgery will be delayed. Who's going to be responsible for that?"
Wendy stared at the missing ultrasound form, her face blushing with embarrassment.
How could she be so stupid, messing up such a simple task?
"We're about to take a patient for an ultrasound-guided biopsy. I'll take you to the ultrasound department."a raspy voice called out to her.
It was Michael, who she had just met briefly. She hadn't expected him to be her supervising doctor.
"Don't worry, running errands is part of an intern's daily routine. You need to do it well," Michael teased, half-joking, half-self-deprecating."I made plenty of mistakes when I first started too."
Wendy pressed her lips together and smiled slightly. "It's okay.I've toughened up over the years."
Juniper's nitpicking, Sarah's arrogance, Ethan's coldness-she had endured it all, and her resilience had been honed to perfection.
Michael raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised by Wendy's words.
Wendy smiled and reorganized the forms.
"Next time, don't be so naive. Tell Wren to have the orderlies run the
errands. It's not an intern's job." Michael said, handing her a bottle of water.
Wendy took the water, gulped down half of it, and then obediently followed Michael to the ultrasound department.
On the other síde, Ethan's business hadn't been going svell lately, with several projects losing funding.
In a foul mood, he arranged to play golf with a few friends.
He didn't say much, just mechanically swung his golf club.
David and the others didn't dare approach him, whispering among themselves, "Ethan's really been struggling since those projects lost funding.huh?"
"I heard several major projects were pulled."
"Big deal, so they were pulled. It's not the endof the world," Charles said, glancing at Ethan with a hint of amusement. "Ethan and Lydia are getting married soon. He doesn't care about a little money."
"True, I heard Lydia's parents are here, and they're already planning the wedding," David sighed.
Though he was good friends with Ethan, he thought Ethan was being selfish.
The divorce papers weren't even finalized, and he was already planning the next wedding.
How shameless.
"Ethan and Lydia are a good match. Wendy was never that great. She
didn't even graduate from med school, and her only family is a paralyzed grandmother. She's practically an orphan. Lydia is much more capable,"
"That's not fair. When Ethan's business was struggling. Wendy did a lot.She found several major projects for him." David couldn't help but defend Wendy.
He knew how much Wendy had done for Ethan.
He didn't want her to be slandered even after their divorce.
Ethan overheard and abruptly stopped, startling everyone."What did you say?"
David hesitated before explaining. "When your company was on the brink of bankruptcy. Wendy begged her grandfather's old friends to get those projects. She never told you because she didn't want to hurt your pride."
Wendy knew Ethan's pride was important to him, so she never mentioned it.
She kept it a secret until now.
Standing in the sunlight. Ethan recalled Wendy's usual submissive demeanor and thought about how he had only given her two million dollars and a house, which he had now given to the Green family.
A pang of guilt washed over him.
That evening. Ethan returned home to find Lydia and Juniper chatting happily on the couch.
Juniper saw him and excitedly said."Ethan, come here! Lydia and I are discussing the wedding."
"Mom,could you go upstairs? Lydia and I need to talk."
"Sure, I'll leave you two alone." Juniper went upstairs with a smile.
Ethan, smelling faintly of sweat, took a sip of water from the new housekeeper and then looked at Lydia, hesitating. "Lydia, how about I get your parents a different house?"
Lydia was taken aback, sitting beside him and biting her lip, looking troubled.
"Ethan, I'm sorry. I didn't know that house was Wendy's, which caused the misunderstanding. Mrs. Collins and my parents are upset. If we move out now, they'll think you still have feelings for Wendy."
Her eyes reddened slightly. Seeing her like this. Ethan softened and hugged her gently. "We'll wait a few more days. Wendy won't mind."
Lydia nodded, a shadow passing through her eyes.
What Ethan didn't expect, however, was that Wendy would later make him regret his words.
While running errands at the hospital, Wendy received a call from Henry.
Henry told her that the transfer of the Starlight Bay Villas house was complete, and it was now hers.
Wendy looked at the property deed Henry sent, with her name on it.
A mocking smile tugged at her lips as she called the Starlight Bay Villas property management.
It didn't take long for the property management to knock on the villa door and evict Thalia and Lydia's father, Randal Green.
