Liam Melford kept his eyes on the medical chart without looking up. "Ethan mentioned Jenna lost both parents. She's supporting herself while covering her brother's surgery fees. That's why she worked as a beverage promoter at the club—to raise funds."
"My God!" Zoe gasped. "Miss Roland has been through so much? Her brother's surgery costs at least eight hundred thousand. How could an ordinary person earn that much?"
Liam closed the file and glanced at her. "Ethan transferred a hundred thousand to my account. Make sure to return it."
"Understood, Dr. Melford."
Jenna finished her lunch box outside the ICU and rented a simple cot.
Three days later, the doctors finally declared Milo out of danger and ready to be moved to a regular ward.
Her tense shoulders relaxed at last.
The original VIP room was already occupied, so she had to apply for another.
The long sofa in the new ward saved her from renting another cot.
"What would you like to eat?" Jenna asked softly.
Milo shook his head weakly. "The doctor said... only porridge..."
"I'll get you some." She ruffled his hair and left.
Outside the hospital, she called Ethan. "Milo's been transferred to a regular ward."
"Good progress," came his deep voice.
"Yeah. I'm going to buy him porridge."
"I'll stop by after work."
After hanging up, Jenna walked briskly toward the porridge shop near the entrance.
At half past six, Ethan arrived punctually.
"Mr. Roscente..." Milo greeted from the bed.
Ethan gave a slight nod. "How are you feeling?"
"Much better. Thank you."
Jenna pulled up a chair. "Have a seat."
He sat gracefully, crossing his long legs. "Dr. Melford said recovery is smooth. He can be discharged within two weeks."
"Dr. Melford left already?" Jenna asked.
"His flight was this morning."
Milo spoke gratefully. "He was supposed to leave right after the surgery but stayed three extra days for me. Sis, we owe him big time."
Jenna smiled gently. "Once you're better, we'll thank him properly together."
