Sean's brow was furrowed, anxiety making his once youthful face appear years older, his eyes filled with confusion and struggle.
Wendy explained patiently. "Look, having this gene and actually getting sick, or how bad it gets, are two different things. Even identical twins can have one with a mildI case and the other with a severe one."
"You can't compare your uncle's situation, your current condition, and your future kids. The future's uncertain, so don't jump to conclusions too soon."
Sean seemed to ponder this. "So, you're saying there's still hope for a cure.right?"
"Yeah," Wendy replied with a smile. "With how fast medical science is advancing, who knows, maybe in a few years, they'll have completely conquered this disease."
Wendy's words were meant as much for herself as they were for Sean.
Sean felt a sudden clarity, his heart regaining its vigor. "Dr. Knight, thank you," he said earnestly.
"Of course, I'll still tell my girlfriend about this illness. Whether she still wants to marry me or not. I'll respect her decision."
Wendy nodded. "I wish you happiness."
After a long day, Wendy headed to the oncology department for her liver cancer treatment.
She walked straight to the nurse's station. grabbed her latest medical
records, and quickly flipped through them.
As she reviewed the test results, Wendy's brow furrowed, her mind racing with thoughts of the next treatment steps.
Although the treatment had been ongoing for a while and the cancer cells were under control, the situation was still far from optimistic.
Wendy's attending physician walked in and saw her. "Wendy, how are you feeling today?"
Wendy forced a smile. "Not bad, just a bit tired."
The doctor gently patted her shoulder. "Don't lose hope. We'll keep fighting together, and you'll get through this."
He then put on his stethoscope, carefully listening to Wendy's heart and lungs, and gently pressed on her abdomen to check for any signs of increased pain.
After the examihation, it was time for another round of targeted therapy.
Wendy lay on the treatment bed, watching the medication drip into her veins.
The side effects of the targeted drugs hit her hard again, with intense nausea and vomiting overwhelming her.
She tried her best to endure it, but her body wouldn't cooperate.
Wendy leaned over the side of the bed, dry heaving uncontrollably.
"Drink some warm water; it might help," a slender hand reached out, offering her a cup of water.
Wendy looked up and saw Alexander.
He was dressed in a black suit, with one button casually undone, revealing a hint of his muscular chest.
He looked down at her, his amber eyes half-hidden under his furrowed brows, his expression serious.
"Thanks," Wendy said, propping herself up on the bed and taking the cup.
She took a small sip, trying to calm her churning stomach.
To distract herself, she focused intently on Alexander's well-defined right hand.
Alexander found a chair and sat beside her.
Neitherof them spoke, the room filled with an unusual yet harmonious silence.
When the treatment was over, Alexander helped Wendy sit up and gently wiped the corners of her mouth. "How are you feeling now? Still nauseous?"
"Much better. I almost thought I was going to die from vomiting."Wendy said, catching her breath.
Seeing her still able to joke, Alexander's expression softened. "Let's go. I'll take you home so you can rest properly."
Wendy nodded slightly and followed him to the door.
She didn't realize it herself, but she had grown accustomed to Alexander's presence.
As they walked out, a cool breeze hit Wendy, making her shiver. She instinctively curled up.
Alexander took off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
His jacket carried a faint scent of tobacco and a refreshing hint of mint.
Wendy didn't refuse, wrapping the jacket tightly around herself.
Seeing her so compliant, Alexander couldn't help but smile, feeling a strange sense of joy.
They got into the car, and the warmth made Wendy drowsy. She leaned against the window and soon fell asleep.
Alexander glanced at her tired face through the rearview mirror, feeling a pang of sympathy. He gently reclined her seat and slowed the car down.
When they arrived at TheKnight Villa, Wendy was still asleep.
Alexander turned to look at her, not blinking.
Wendy's long, thick eyelashes resembled butterfly wings resting on her skin, beautifully shaped.
Alexander's gaze fell on her soft, pink lips, his throat feeling dry.
Her lips must be so soft and tender.
Alexander knew he shouldn't look at her so disrespectfully, but he couldn't control his gaze.
His breathing grew heavier, his fingers trembling slightly. Finally, he couldn't resist lightly touching her cheek.
Her skin was incredibly smooth. like a peeled egg.
Alexander felt a rush of emotion, his heart pounding.
He smiled wryly, realizing that at his age, he was acting like a lovestruck teenager, unsure of how to handle his feelings for the girl he liked.
Just then, Wendy stirred, opening her sleepy eyes and meeting his intense gaze.
Their eyes locked, and Wendy froze for a moment before quickly looking away, her cheeks flushing.
Alexander's gaze darkened, his voice a bit hoarse. "You're awake? Let me help you upstairs."
"No, no need," Wendy stammered, shaking her head. She hurriedly opened the door and got out of the car.
Alexander didn't stop her, just watched'her hurriedly retreating figure in silence.
In the following days, Wendy continued her busy routine at the hospital.
Finally, the weekend arrived, and it washer turn to take a break.
Susan came to pick her up as planned, taking her to Linda's hot spring hotel, with Jessica already in the car.
The hotel was like a hidden paradise, nestled at the foot of the misty Wildflower Mountain.
The car slowly drove in and came to a steady stop.
As Wendy stepped out, her gaze was drawn to the distance.
It was dusk, and the sky was painted with vibrant colors, like a masterpiece created with a careful brush.
At the foot of the mountain, the steam from the hot springs rose gently, the breeze carrying the fresh scent of the mountain flora and a faint hint of sulfur.
"What are you staring at?" Jessica teased with a smile.
Wendy snapped out of her reverie, murmuring softly, "Just a few more days, and I'll have the divorce papers."
Jessica clasped her hands together. "Congratulations!"
Wendy's lips curved into a small smile. "Same to you."
Just then, a young, handsome bellhop hurried over, efficiently helping them with their luggage and leading them through the beautifully designed garden.
The path was a quaint stone walkway, winding through lush greenery, with trees swaying gracefully on either side.
Scattered among the trees were variously shaped rock formations, with clear springs flowing through the crevices.
Further ahead, clusters of vibrant camellias added a splash of color to the serene surroundings.
The girls couldn't help but admire Linda's excellent taste.
Following the bellhop, Susan, with her sharp eyes, noticed his good looks and teased, "You're quite handsome. Does your hotel offer any special services?"
The bellhop's face turned bright red, and he hurriedly explained, "Our hotel doesn't have any of those shady services.I assure you!"
Susan pretended to be disappointed."What a pity."
She and Jessica exchanged a mischievous glance and burst into laughter.
"You think this is a bar? Even the bellhop isn't safe from you," a lazy voice chimed in. "He's not even eighteen yet."
That voice...
